Magic / Mystic Great Sword missing art

While I was modding I noticed that the mystic and magic great swords fail to appear in WorldEd. I investigated art/item/ item_ground and item_inven to find that the ground art for the 2 swords is simply missing.
I added the 2 missing lines and bingo, 20 swords appeared in my mod. They had been lying on the ground lacking art the whole time.

So my question is, do the swords appear anywhere in the game?
If not, are the swords perhaps in the game but simply "invisible"?

Next time I play through Arcanum I'll have to do it with modified item files.

Step by step guide

First undat the arcanumX.dat files.
Then open the art/item folder in the undat directory.
In the item folder you will find an item_ground.mes file.
Copy this file to the data folder in the original arcanum directory.
You will have to create the new folders within it so it looks like this:
arcanum\data\art\item\item_ground.mes

Open the copied file and go to line 151.
Paste this underneath it:

{152}{g_2hsword00.ART}
{153}{g_2hsword00.ART}

Voila!

This is not the only way to accomplish this but personally I find this the easiest.



From blinky's response am I to take it that this hasn't been explored before? (I can't really be bothered replaying Arcanum to investigate as I played it only 6 months ago).

 

I've done a little investigation and it turns out the swords are in the game. You can see them in chests but not on the ground. So basically, don't drop a mystic or magic greatsword because you won't be getting it back if you do.

If you're worried about losing your swords then just do what I said above. Alternatively I can provide the corrected file if you want by e-mail. Just let me know here.

 

Now I understand why I got my Sword of Baltar lost.En……Arcane Sword worth little.I can buy one if I really want, just wait a month.

All you have to do is replace the original item_ground.mes with your one, right?

 

As far as I remember the data\art folder should be empty if you have a standard arcanum installation so there shouldn't be a file to replace. If there is a file in there then just replace it.
Just pop the altered file into arcanum\data\art\item folder.
You may have to create the folder.
No undatting necessary!
