    Hi; I'm new here.

I recently found my Arcanum disk after it had been lost for two years, and spent the last few days getting re-acquainted. It's as good as I remembered.

But there are two issues that I'm wondering about. Please note that I'm NOT asking for help, because I'm sure that these aren't issues that can be fixed. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced the same things.

One oddity is that the Play disk doesn't allow you to play the game; I have to use the Install disk instead. When I put it in it tries to install the game, I stop it, and then start the game manually. But the game won't play at all off of the CD marked "Play". Does anyone else have this problem, or is my copy glitched somehow? They're the original disks, incidentally.

The other thing that I finally figured out is weapon loss. Back when I first played the game, I noticed that my characters (and some of my followers) were losing their weapons; what sucked is that sometimes I'd discover this AFTER I'd already saved the game. And some some of those lost weapons were awfully nice and hard to replace.

I knew that you could drop a weapon in combat, presumably due to a fumble or (perhaps) a critical by your opponent. But I hadn't realized that there were traps that could make you drop weapons, too. I move so fast through some trap-heavy areas that I didn't see the "Weapon dropped!" text.

I know that followers sometimes pick up dropped weapons, but only if they have enough space in their inventories; given the default way in which items stack in inventories, this makes it less likely that anyone will be able to pick up a long weapon. And given the sheer size of the WORLD of Arcanum, if you lost a weapon while travelling overland, the odds are very good indeed that you'll never, ever find it again.

I think this is a bit of a design error, actually. Pity it wasn't caught in playtesting.

I kind like the "Weapon Dropped" traps myself. After all, you supposed to be careful when you traverse a booby-trapped dungeon. Just be careful next time and after a weapon is fumbled due to the trap stop everything and look around the general area until you find it. As for your disc problems... I've no idea. I don't have that problem but if it isn't stopping you from playing the game I say don't worry about it.
