Lost and confused

I have been running around this map for it seems eons. i'm level 36 dwarf.
yet i can't fig out how to get around the mountains. to get to ruby thing and the elf village.

helpful hints would be nice

BTw is it just me or is this game impossible above easy level. I die constantly as is, i use turn base fighting because any other way is sure death.

any help is appreciated

 

you need to ask myrth in stillwater to show you the way and tell you about a pass. He's house is above the blacksmith to the left

 

or u can join the steel clan and help them cut a new pass underneath the mountains, that takes a bit of time, but it's a very nice place for a pass, and rewards are great
