Actually I'm surprised that, with your exaggerated prices, you're not on DF's side.

Agreed. Just because they're jacking the prices in between the import doesn't mean what they're doing is cool.

Actually Xiao is correct about the prices of games in Australia, they are exactly what she listed which is expensive even after you do conversion rates and compare prices in other countries.

And like the bitches we are, we keep paying that much because ordering from overseas can be even more expensive.

I pay it because I still have a local independent game shop and he charges what he realistically can after the wholesalers sell to him.

But yeah games cost mega bucks here.

We have maybe five sources of games here in Tasmania: EB Games (who are admittedly the best by far); Harvey Norman, Target, Myers or KMart. We get royally screwed.

i would agree that games are highly over priced, Risen, through steam (keep in mind the distribution costs are minimal) costs 49,99 Euro, yes 50 Euro for a game. That's $73.75 USD, or $81.44 AUD.

    It's fucking insane.

That said it took them three years to make that game, where as most motion pictures take about three to six months.

About the same price as here then, give or take. Of course if you're unlucky enough to live in a place that has only a single store that sells games, you can expect to pay upwards of almost double that. That's why I haven't bought a single game since moving here. I refuse to pay the arbitrarily inflated price. If they can be sold so cheap elsewhere, there's no reason to have such a massive price here. I doubt the distribution of the products are that expensive.

Sad part is, I'm still probably going to be ordering some stuff from America this Christmas, as they're getting Atelier Annie and we're not. (HOLY fuck, an actual real live core series Atelier game outside Japan. Must have, even if it means I have to hack my DS or something.)

can't you hook up with a buddy in the states or buy from ebay at a decent price? or are you drilled with an import tax? I know in the past when I have shipped overseas, I claim the worth as a few bucks so the tax is a minimal as possible

I mostly buy older games. Those ones often come out in the eXtra Classic series and therefore cost 20 zł, which would something less than 5 Euro. And they're still better than most of the newer stuff.

I don't know why the very same game always costs twice or thrice as much when it's for PS3 rather than for PC, but since I don't own any consoles that doesn't really bother me.

I heard that the companies actually lose money on the consoles themselves, relying on the games sales to net a profit. I suppose that this could explain the price disparity in part, however developing games for consoles must be heaven as you don't have to worry about making the damn thing compatible with the endless combinations of hardware prospective buyers might use. So either licensing is ridiculously expensive, or console gamers are more gullible.

Jacked prices on Direct 2 Drive products are the worst. Shouldn't I pay less for a product I downloaded from your website, because you don't need to package it?

DE: Yeah, PS3 loses a few hundred per console. Worst marketing scheme, ever. I'm pretty sure Microsoft makes profit directly from the consoles, though, but that may be because building that machine is less intensive than building the other.

*grin* Fucking love Ebay. 1 copy of Atelier Annie, straight from the US at slightly less than what I would have paid here in Australia to get it off the shelves. JOY! *performs the 'Goddammit I'm Finally Getting A Core Atelier Game' dance*

Even if it doesn't help your gaming status, I'll happily hook up with you. :D

Grakelin: I'm pretty sure that both companies are losing money on their consoles. It's the games that make the difference up to them.
