Its all about distance, when crossing the equator we do it at opposite points thus ensuring that the minimum distance that is ever between us is the width of the Earth.

So when DE goes into his kitchen, you have to go into your livingroom?

Does it also entail that old sailors' habit of shaving your head whenever crossing the equator?

That would pretty swiftly annoy me.

Isn't it something about shaving with an axe the first time you cross the equator? Not being a sailor and not having any naval experience means I don't really know anything about it for sure.

With an axe? Man, that gives "The Brazilian" whole new meaning.

My uncles are sailors and though they didn't get shaved with an axe (at least they never revealed if they were), they were tossed into the sea for good measure.

I was a sailor for two weeks, but there was no equatorial crossings involved. To my regret.

Are they the ones that "touched" you in the strange place?

What the hell does an axe have to do with the equator?

One time, I was "accidentally" keel hauled. Actually that never happened.
What did happen, which is much less interesting, is that my uncle, while on his honeymoon, was sailing on a catamaran and got too close to the port-side railing as the helmsman made a sharp right turn. He was flung from the boat, and ended up treading water and yelling for about 20 minutes, all the while worrying about the animals swimming below him.
