Hi everyone, I've made a world map that works, but I'm having some problems. You see I don't want to have to add everything on a huge map, like Troika did, but to link other maps to the world map. By that I mean, first make a map in world editor that will function as my world map, and then in gamearea.mes and maplist.mes select the coordinates so that when you travel on the world map and see, example, "A Swamp", and travel to it, the game will load up another map. I'm not sure if this is possible, I've read something about it working somewhere... I hope I'm not to confusing, but as always I would really appreciate any help. /D
Zammy has actually done some of this before and Dark Underlord had it on his site, but the link no longer works. I guess you'll have to try to contact Zammy, he's Ukranian, or wait until DU gets that up in the Tools area under Modding on this site. I don't think I have a copy of that file because I wasn't interested in it at the time.
Nope. It is not possible . You can only walk to one world map. The game can display many however. I do not know how. Zammy has experimented with that. You probably need to know Russian to talk to him.
Sorry if I was a bit unclear, but that's not at all what I meant. Maybe I should make an example: You start in a town somewhere, and the, after talking to someone, get the location of another town. You script it so it shows on your world map. Then you travel to that location. In a normal case you would just build the other town on the original large map (that the world map represents) and that is no problem. I want to have different, maps (not world maps mind you) that loads when you reach your destination. In my example it would be that you leave Town A and travel to Town B, which is marked on your map, but when reaching Town B the game loads another map, similar to a teleport script or something. I don't really know if that is how you interpretated my previous question but if not then how about this one? The thing is that I'm modding with a friend and having to work with one gigant map is problematic if we are to design places on our own and the combining them in the module. /D
If I understand you correctly, you want to have what amount to several town maps that would be similar to the sewer maps or dungeon maps that are in the original Arcanum. If that is what you want to do, you could probably do it by coordinating with your friend so that you both place tile scripts on the big map that the world map references that will actually teleport you with no delay into your individual town maps. That should be no big deal to do as long as you both use the same coordinates and map numbers in your MapList.mes files. Just make sure that you don't get your map numbers mixed up - that's how some of the incompatibilities between mods and addons happen.
Well as a last way out the idea with tile scripts that teleport you is possible. But I've tried it and it doesn't look good since you don't get teleported until you move, if you just travel (with the world map) to the location and just stand there nothing happens. I really had hoped there was away to solve this, since it would make things more easy (plus I've already designed a nice-looking city in the desert on a small 5x5 map, which I hoped to use in my larger mod)... The thing is that if you are ready to make cuts in the story or feeling of the mod then solving problems such as these are not that hard. You could somehow be teleportet to the desert city but that ain't so fun... Modding Arcanum is both a pleasure and a bitch. Some things (like the way dialogues work) I love, they are easy and well developed, other like the scripts are ok, it is far, far from perfect but I often manage to make things go as I want to (after a few hours )... But the lack of variations in graphic really puts me down, although they are understandable since Troika only had 2 people doing all the art (and they did a good job in my opinion...) I also would like to get a hold of their ArtMaker... but who wouldn't... The most sad thing is that the modding community has died, even though there some people left. Actually I just recently started modding and just played Arcanum last summer, but the mod world of Arcanum is nothing if you look at IE-community. Well maybe I should stop ranting and get some sleep instead. By the way if anyone knows a way to get my problem to work please post it. Regards /D
