Some weeks ago, I bought the King's Quest and Police Quest Collection for the XP*. I already had some of these games on disks, but it seems that I could not remember any solutions of these games.

*The reason that I am still using the XP is if I had VISTA, then I must do some programming to get the older games to work. I am too old-fashioned to get this done.

I tried to replay King's Quest, can't remember the number, its the Princeless bride one. I never completed that when I was younger however it seems I just can't play it, I think I need to configure DOS Box so it reads my dvd drive as the cd drive it needs.

DOSBox or at the very worst an emulator would let you play both of those. No programming needed, matey.

Besides, I doubt you'd want to reverse-engineer the entire program - XP isn't being old fashioned, it's still an NT-based kernel and hence will bug up with quite a few older games of that era.

Oops, I meant that I am too old-fashioned to do any real advanced programming on any computers. (I can only do some normal stuff like a bit Hex-editing Arcanum, etc.)

Indeed, to get this game to work, you have to configure Dosbox.conf. I am not sure, but I think you have to change the xms, or ems.

Here you can find more information about this: http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Dosbox.conf

Incidentally, I've also purchased King's Quest and X-Com off of Direct2Drive, and they work in Vista fine. They've already engineered it for you. King's Quest has its own client (I think it's actually just DOSBox, it's been months now so I don't remember), and X-Com uses DOSBox (but to a much greater effect, for some reason, I even get to see the cutscreen.

    It's good stuff.

God, I know the feeling. It took me a fucking month to get it going - the starting town was so bloody boring that I never actually bothered playing it any further.

The best reason to use XP instead of Vista is that Vista is a virus disguised as an OS.

Even more idiotic Microsoft Help(tm) that automates your computer more or less without your consent. (And its option to turn Windows Update off is more or less a flat out lie.)

Yet another reason to use Linux instead. XP is just as bad, in my opinion. I'd rather buy a PPC and use AmigaOS. Actually, I'd rather do that anyway.

I am not sure about this (It has been some years ago that I have played this game) but have you tried to make and use a backup Disk?

I never thought of it that way before. Turning such a drawback into an advantage? That, sir, is ingenious.

Senility is weird. I had to watch this old lady with Alzheimer's for a week to make sure she didn't escape; she kept trying to go home. She couldn't remember anything from five minutes earlier, so our conversations went something like this:

    Old Lady: Where's Joey?
    Me: Your dog?
Old Lady: Where's my little dog?
Me: The girls took him for a walk. (Note, there is no dog. The dog is gone.)
Old Lady: I hate that! They shouldn't take him out.
Me: He's fine. He'll be right back.
Old Lady: He's the best little dog. Do you have a dog?
Me: I sure do. He's tiny and black and named Faust. He's a very good dog.
Old Lady: That sounds like a nice dog. I have a dog, too. Here Joey! Joey? Where's Joey?
Me: The girls took him for a walk.
Old Lady: They shouldn't take him out! I hate when they do that.

Ad nauseum. After six days I was ready to throw her ass through a window.

Hey, Ramidouche, don't mind the big fucking thread about the NanoWrimo. I'm sure it doesn't contain any pertinent information about why you shouldn't bother Xiao this month. And please disregard the fact that she doesn't have to do shit for you, the LP is entirely for her own entertainment.

    ...Ass.
