The House of Lords decide to temporarily ally with the Romans in the session. We trade Seafaring for Literacy, sign an alliance and share our maps. Wonderful.

The road to the last Viking city is open! Soldiers of the 1st Tarantian, to victory!

Meanwhile, Black Root completes a Trireme. We start working on training soldiers. Ashbury and Tarant start developing their municipalities. We prove that we are the premier in technology too.

    Not forgetting:

To celebrate this joyful event, we send emissaries to the Romans. We learn Trade from the in exchange for the Republic. However, they tell us that they want another technology, or this alliance is over. There are no more targets around and the Unified Kingdom will not be extorted, so we make off with this alliance.

A few years later, the 2nd Tarantian Army Division becomes battle ready. From here, the House of Lords must decide on our policy:

We have discovered the Republic. It is a more efficient government form that will allow us to raise our scientific and economic output significantly. However, it does not allow for militaristic sentiment - troops deployed in foreign lands will cause unrest, collapsing the government. The Republic will allow us to easily colonize the mainland.

Meanwhile, the Romans have cancelled our alliance and are now the only civilization around. We all know what that means. We now have the 1st and the 2nd Tarantian battle ready, by the way.

Now discuss, fellow Lords. What path should we follow?

    Lord Zanza addresses the forum.

"My fellow intellectuals, the time has come for us to usher in a new age for the Unified Kingdom. Adopting the government civics of the Republic will allow our nation to flourish. With this increased scientific and economic output I propose we settle two new cities on the mainland. Through excellent work from our Division of Diplomacy we know the location of the Roman cities. They shall be our next targets, we know this. However instead of razing their culture to the ground, I further propose we install a Lord of the Unified Kingdom as governor of Rome. I wish to nominate Lord Grakelin as governor of this city as well as forward a plan to rename Rome Caladon when we occupy it."

    Lord Arthgon stands up:

    I put forth my motion to my fellow Lords of our Gods blessed nation, that we should not be extorted by those infindels, and it's our right to take over their land. The motion to rename and put Graklin as governor is granted. The only things that I am worried about are;

How strong are the enemies defences, and are our troops strong enough to be divided to our nation and the occupied lands?

Lord Wobbler slowly rises, speaking for the first time since the foundation of the Unified Kingdom:

The govermental ideas that these barbaric Romans have taught us might be a good way for them to rule. But it is not our way. We serve a King, a king whose bloodline has proven it's worth over and over again. And until the day the King fails, we will follow him.

And one the subject of what should be done about these romans, I have only one thing to add, the World lives by the rules of war. Therefore, in order to rule the world, you must rule by war. I say crush these infidels that have tried to extort us.

They have the sheer audacity to demand from us?
    This will not stand.
Slay them all and display their heads in a comical manner.

We have three votes for direct military action. Lord Zanza's vote calls for establishing a Republic and capturing Rome. It seems that we have a general consensus that the city of Rome must be captured.

However, how should we lead the assault? We can set sail with "all" of our troops to Rome. This would subjugate Rome easier, but can delay the destruction of their empire in total. Since Rome is their greatest city, they would not pose a threat, but they could put our modernization efforts into delay.

In contrast, we can have the 1st Tarantian attack Veii and Pompeii, while the 2nd Tarantian can set sail from Black Root to Rome. When our armies both get in position, we can initiate blitzkrieg to destroy their pathetic empire. A shorter war means less time for them to build any defenses/annoyances, but there may be a chance (little) that the 2nd Tarantian is destroyed in front of Rome.

The Hammer and Anvil strategy in war is a time tested way of fighting. I say allow the First to destroy the Roman's outlying villages. Let these pompous fools see the folly of their actions and their arrogance to demand anything of our King. Let their citizens live in fear of our might. By the time the First can route the Romans from their city into our waiting Second and they shall see the folly of their 'Republic.'

    Lord Grakelin speaks:

I concur with the idea of forming a Republic. The war with Rome shall be short, and we need to consolidate the power of this council in the eyes of the people of the Unified Kingdom.

I would suggest we hit Rome first. As it is their capital, there is a chance that beheading their rulers will cause internal strife in the Roman Republic, dividing their empire into two weaker factions. If these factions end up fighting amongst themselves, it will be even easier for us to pick them off.

The House of Lords vote unanimously for war. Battle plans include positioning our army, striking Rome first to try for a civil war. If no division happens, the 1st Tarantian will pick out their northern cities anyways.

Our army sets sail. The 1st Tarantian lands near geographical Prussia. Kree recruits a group of workers to develop the gold mine to their north.

Tarant builds a City Wall. Since we have no more improvements we can build in that city, I take initiative, and we continue with a Great Library without voting. Building it will ensure that our civilization will never fall behind in the technology race. Other choices were an Oracle (more happiness, no need), Great Wall (foreign powers must offer peace in negotiations, but do we want it?) and Marco Polo's Embassy (foreign contact with every civilization means our reputation will fail with each of them simultaeously).

We continue our research with Engineering. We are progressing towards Invention, which will allow us to build Leonardo's Workshop - it upgrades all units instantly (OOC: until Automobile). It will give us great power if we can build it and the discover a more potent military technology. What could replace bows and catapults, though?

We reach near Veii and Pompeii. Consul Livia contacts us and demands 50 gold pieces in tribute. We laugh, and respon by placing the 2nd Tarantian on the hills north of Rome. The 1st Tarantian forms a frontline.

In return of our move, Romans respond with this:

I guess fish and Mediterranean air does not promote intelligence, after all. We proceed to bombard the city and move towards Veii. Our troops capture Rome after little struggle. We capture a wonder too:

To be honest, this makes it just a lot more fun:

We rename the city Caladon, as demanded bv Lord Zanza. Lord Grakelin is appointed governor. On the northern front, the fools try to destroy the 1st Tarantian, but our valiant Archers give no way. The fools make a great tactical error and exhaust their defenses in Veii. We follow by moving our troops in an intact city.

We take Feudalism from them. Romans demand to speak with us. They suggest a ceasefire, which we naturally decline. They respond by saying they are mobilized for war, while both of their last cities are in revolt. Pathetic.

In a distant land, a philosopher finishes his work. All the world hears of Unified Kingdom's scientific might.

This will not stop us though. We cannot stagnate. Always improve, for the glory of Tarant!

We establish control in both captured cities and move towards our next targets. 2nd Tarantian continues from the coastline while the 1st Tarantian moves on protective hills. The 2nd Tarantian lands in a forest in cover. We also see some Chinese troops fight with Romans, although we do not make official contact.

So, we capture Pompeii and Antium as well, but Romans are not eradicated. Probably they have more inland cities, but fat chance they will give us their locations now. How should we proceed? This is a free debate for the House of Lords.

For your pleasure, here are some trivia on our empire:

1/ Our throne room (OOC: Gets better with score):

2/ Top 5 cities (Tarant will get at top after we build our first wonder):

    3/ Demographics:

    4/ Span of our empire:

P.S. New names for new cities would be much appreciated.
P.P.S. OOC: I have my high school graduation rehearsal tomorrow, the real graduation on Monday and the graduation ball on Tuesday. Don't be surprised if I don't advance the game on those days, and feel free to debate the future of Unified Kingdom.

I disagree, Caladon is a fine city and will only continue to be the grandest of all cities under my leadership.

OOC: Meant game mechanics wise, because the game looks at the amount of luxury in the city, its size and the number of wonders in it - Tarant will jump into #1 when we build a wonder there. We can still change what wonder we build there too, so if you have conflicting ideas, you can say them.

Calaodn could always build a second wonder though I guess.

Tula should be one of the cities.

For future course of actions: 2nd wipes out the remaining roman forces while the 1st travels to meet the chinese.

Old chap, allow me to provide you with a comprehensive list of useful names to emblazon our newly conquered cities: Tulla, Quintarra, Vendigroth, Roseborough, Falcon's Ache, Dernholm, Shrouded Hills, T'sen Ang.

Also allow me to propose more precise suggestions for cities currently in our possession:

Antium: Dernholm, because its geographical position in the current expanse of our empire demands it.

Veii: Shrouded Hills, because it seems small and mostly harmless.

Pompeii: Roseborough, because the likelihood of being obliterated by an erupting Volcano somehow resonates well with having the very gate to the Void in your backyard.

    Lord Arthgon stands up:

I put forth a motion to the other Lords of our blessed nation, that we destroy the remaining roman forces (If there are no high risks), and build up our armies and our defenses. After that we could send a messenger to the Chinese first, to know more about them.

I agree with the names, but I was wondering, will there be any chances that Tarant and Caladon will become rivals? Also, how high are the costs to build a second wonder?

    Answering Lord Arthgon:

    - From the demographics, you can see that we are the "last" nation in terms of military numbers. This has not stopped us from winning every war we go in. We have a highly professional army, and any risk we may have will ever be only slight.
    - Tarant and Caladon can only be rivals in commerce. Even then, corruption is higher in Caladon due to distance to capital. That would hinder growth.
    - There are not much costs, only how much time it would take. Caladon is surrounded with hills, and mining them would yield high production.

"Dear fellow Lords, there is still a lot of the world waiting for our conquest and a lot of enemy capitols which we will take over and rename. I do believe such fine names should be reserved for those special occasions."

"I see wisdom in the words of Lord Dark Elf and fully support his suggestions."
