Laydees and genteelmen, tomorrow on Saturday Australia time, DarkUnderlord and Jarinor will face off (if all goes well) in a game of Starcraft! This is what DarkUnderlord had to say about the expected competition: Q: So, DU, how are you feeling? A: I gotta admit, I'm feeling a little nervous. Q: Why's that? A: Well, Jarinor already knows my tactic to just drop reavers into people's bases. Very effective I find. Plus that and for all I know Jarinor might be an expert player. Q: Have you ever played a decent player before? A: Well, with my "Dodgy Slow Dial-up Internet Connection [TM]" I can't join in the decent games because they all want low lag. I've tried, but they boot me when my lag indicator hits the yellow and borders on red... Q: So do you think this game will be interesting? A: Well, if Jarinor doesn't mind a little laggy connection and we can actually PLAY without too many problems... It'll definately be an interesting game. Well, either that or I get rushed and wiped out really quickly... Q: You're susceptible to a rush? A: I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that it may lead to my untimely demise. Q: Any last words before you prepare for the battle? A: Yes, once the dust has cleared, I'll post a 'replay' of the match up on my site and put in a link here if anyone wants to see the action.... And see who won and lost. Well folks, you heard it here first... Tomorrow, Jarinor vs DarkUnderlord. Don't miss it. _________________ DarkUnderlord ---------------- Moo... Moo... I haven't got the time to do a little mock interview like DU over there, so I'll post a few of my thougths... 1. I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to one on one. I guess I'll be putting my shitloads of free time to use today . 2. I haven't even decided what race to use yet. 3. I suffer from at least as much lag as DU. 4. I shall do my best to kick his arse, but I don't think that my usual tactics will work. 5. I'm tempted to rush, but then I thought that he might have said that so as to lull me into a false sense of security, so I'm torn between rushing and not rushing. Reverse psychology can be a real bitch sometimes.
You can't really draw in Starcraft...not unless everyone's units are simultaneously wiped out, and no money left over...which is nearly impossible.
Nothing's impossible... And yeah it's really easy to get a draw... After 2 hours of hogging all resources and building and rebuilding and small attacks everyone becomes bored... Besides when each one has an army 200 psi worth... it's just no fun.
Last draw I had... Some guy kept sending carriers my way and I kept.... Well, needless to say his carriers never got through... Eventually, after an hour and a half, we decided to call it quits... Neither of us could get into each others bases... Makes for quite a good replay actually. Even if I should've lost...
Actually when I was playing Zerg on BGH, against a protos with infinite photons and those thingies that cast storm and kill my guardians by the hordes... i tried making zerlings on all the 200...or 180 (peasants) psi... well the line was from my base to his and since the entrance was pretty narrow dogs didnt do much and he rebuilt... Then I went all ultralisk and it lasted about 2 minutes...all of mine died but he was defenseless, second pack of ultralisks finished him.
I learned last night, that vultures are highly underrated - they are great at making raids on expansion bases, particularly when you've upgraded their speed. Then they just blitz across the map. Nice damage too, especially for their cheap price...
Ultralisks Ioo? Heh... I've played against a few Zerg and never once had an Ultralisk attack. Although.... That's probably because the game never got that far. Sorry! I have! I lost because of it... Took a guy forever to get into my base. Until he came in with Ultralisks and Guardians. And Jarinor regarding my comments the other day, this is why Terran suck IMO: 1) Micro-managment: Terran require it a lot more than the other races (Zerg of which is the least). Mainly because every most units need some form of 'looking after'. Marines need to be stimpacked all the time, tanks setup.. But more importantly, units like the ghost and casting lockdown are really picky and need a bit of skill to do. ALl races have units like this, but Terran seem to be hardest to master. 2) Room to Move: Of all the races, Terran need HUGE amounts of room. Supply depots are quite big (2x3) when compared to the Protoss Pylon (2x2) and the Zerg (which have overlords). Also, things like factories and starports need their add-on buildings. If you try to build anything more than 6 factories, you run out of room especially when you need 6 barracks and 6 starports with add-ons. 3) Slow to build. Consider this, you're a terran, you've just been attacked and 30 missile turrets at the side of your base have been destroyed. You need to rebild them. How? You NEED at least 12 scv's to do the job quickly enough. That's 12 scv's that could be gather minerals. Compared with a Protoss, who only EVER need 1 probe to build everything (If you have enough minerals, you can dump 30 cannons in just like that) and the Zerg (who just need spare drones), the Terran building is slow. It's only a few things but trust me, I used to play Terran on my school network years ago and gave up when I realised how much they suck. Although, a GOOD Terran player can be quite a bonus to have as an ally. I'd say the best tactic is siege tanks. Get 12 of them and siege an enemies base. NOW, you don't attack. You just set your tanks up so they can attack the defenses of your enemy a bit. Keep them back and let the enemy come to you! Of course, you have 12 goliaths, marines and firebats to back your tanks up so that when he comes to you, he gets screwed. Then you just ever-so-slowly egde your way in. Moving your siege tanks in a bit. Taking out the next line of buildings, fending off any attack and then moving in again. Until you get past all his defenses. If you're the one being attacked like this, then the way to stop it is to either have enough units to take out his tanks OR you attack their base while they're attacking you. Air units and dropping units into their base is the best way to go. One of the best games I can remember was when I was getting attacked by EVERYTHING the other 2 players had (my ally had abandoned me) So while they were attacking me, I went and air-dropped my army into their base. I lost the game... But geee.... I took out one guys entire base (except for a bank of cannons) and I had started attacking the other guy when he realised and stopped me. Actually, it can be quite good to attack a player while they're attacking you, mainly because they never notice it until it's too late. Although, if there was some kind of 'the town is under attack' message then things might be different.... Ohh.... And I won't be putting up the replay of the matches Jarinor and I had. They aren't that fun to watch (very quick, over in about 20 mins and you can tell who won from the moment the first zergling rush fails... THe other matches againts the computers are just boring as the cpu is dumb and either dies eventually due to its' dumbness, or you get slaughtered when 4 different colours of siege tanks start pounding your base early in the game and you've only got cannons as defence). On another note, is anyone else in these forums interested in a bit of Starcraft? I'm thinking of a 2vs2 match of T-A regulars. Anyone interested? :thinkof:
My big mistake there was letting him see me choose Zerg before the match began...if only I'd chosen random, and ended up with Zerg...Sometimes I can be really stupid. Also, the latest patch increases the cost of a spawning pool to 200 minerals, which effectively kills the 4-pool, and even 5-pool, strategy. Oh, so very true. Medics also have really bad AI as well - you do your whole attack-move thing, and they rush on ahead, leaving behind the marines and firebats to be slaughtered, before they turn around and get back...sometimes I want to scream at those medics. I discovered, however, that Vultures are suprisignly underrated. Spider mines are cool for softening up those protoss shields or zerg rushes, but I think they are also the fastest units in the game. They can sure wreak havoc on work force, I know that.
I play Starcraft but my version is hmmmmmmm well I am just not so rich so my version doesn't work in Battlenet although there is a server in my country where it works.
I use a cd-key of someone who doesn't use b.net...hell, I don't know who's CD key it is, but it ain't mine . I'm not sure if that's a good thing...
What's a 4-pool or 5-pool strategy??? Building 4 spawning pools??? That 200 mineral patch does mess up Zerg's rushing though.
4-pool - you don't immediately spend your 50 minerals. Instead, you just wait until you've gathered the required amount, then build your spawning pool. Hence 4-pool, because you keep your 4 original drones. 5-pool - variation on 4-pool - you build 1 drone, then pool. Faster mineral gathering, and probably better now that the cost has been bumped up.
Oooh... another way of rushing is... you build 9 drones, then start the pool and overlord...and you can prolly make a second hatchery... it's later but you are better off later. And you can make more zerlings.
