Okay so I've played through the game earlier and ended up having Vollinger leave my party after Tsen Ang. As far as I know, I need to read the book that Joachim leaves in Stillwater to prevent Vollinger from leaving and to let the Molochean Hand leave me alone. Having done that, does Virgil need to interrupt and comment about to book in order for the above event to happen? Right now, I loaded an earlier save, just finished talking to Loghaire having learned Stillwater's location. I read the book and Virgil's not reacting at all about it. Is there a work-around to this or no?
So you are asking about how to get the book or whether or not Virgil needs to comment after you have received the book? Spoiler In order to gain the book you visit the room in the inn (shrouded hills), read the note and head to the post office in Tarant, gain a note from the postmaster and then ask the innkeeper at Stillwater for a package. If you already have the book all you need to do is have it on your person when you encounter a misguided fool after your meeting with a certain crazy lady who may or may not find you attractive.
Persuasion or intelligence? Basically you are telling him he is being fooled and you then show the book as proof. Most of my characters tend to have a couple of extra points in those talents anyway.
IIRC, the timer on that script is pretty long. You may need to wait up to 1 minute after reading the book.
And yes, I'm asking about Virgil commenting about the book. Is it necessary for him to comment about the book to get the Molochean Hand off of my back? I've completed the note and the telegram as well. Regarding the 1 minute time, that's pretty new to me. I'll try this later when I wake up.
You don't need him to comment, just open the book in your inventory so to confirm you have 'read' it. Even if Virgil dies at the crash site it is possible to follow this chain and still get them off your back.
You don't need to have the book in your inventory when talking with Gideon Layer. If fact, you can very well throw it in the trash bin right after you read it. No persuasion is needed to become a friend of the Molochean Hand. Reading Joachim's book and having an intelligence greater than four (=not having dumb dialogue) are the only requirements.
Thank you very much Zanza, Muro and Drog for the replies. Apparently, what Drog said is true. You need to wait for an entire minute after reading the book for Virgil to comment. Now I've got the misguided person off of my back as well as his pathetic lackeys. I also got to keep Vollinger as this one was the part that ticked me off big time since he's the only one who can kill most enemies in one bullet.
Okay this is driving me insane. I've got that book, and haven't been able to get a reaction from Virgil, I've LITERALLY left the book open and went to sleep, turned the page when I woke up, and left it there for a few hours. I've also tried "reading" the book and closing it, and then waiting for him to respond, I've got no idea what I'm doing wrong, but no matter how much I wait, he does never respond to the book. :-x
