    Weeeell, "gratis" means free, (free as in "You don't have to pay for it"). "Grattis" on the other hand, means "Congratulation". At least in swedish.

    Gratis is free as in free beer. "Grattis" is stupid shortening of "gratulerer" which is the verb describing the action of giving someone a "gratulasjon" which is the Scandinavian spelling of the Germanic (No, I don't mean German even though it is the German word as well.) "Gratulation" which in some way or another has had "con" added to it by the English.
