I know it is, but wouldn't people want their holy places to be nice and clean?

"Holy Shit" describes Ganges just perfectly.

    Holy Festering Corpses, Batman!

I'm pretty sure they suffer under the delusion that no-one has ever gotten sick from the water. In Autobiography of a Yogi he says the Ganges contains a phage, a virus that targets and lyses bacterial cells, so the water is perfectly safe. Hahaha. Religion, eh?

I have no problem with people appreciating the beauty of a river. If they decide to go animistic and assign spiritual qualities to the waterway I'm perfectly cool with that too. When they decide that the same spot of water can function as a morgue, public bathhouse and potable water source, I must protest.

Why protest? It's natural selection in action.

No need to protest, DE. There's karma a-plenty awaiting them. In the form of chronic diaroea. Now that's karma.

Perhaps we can soon expect multiresistant dharmic übermenschen from the shores of Benares...

More likely multi-resistant bacteria and a global plague of the Dire Rear.

That's a good reason to protest. Sharing a planet with the Ganges is unhygeinic.

There's no rhyme or reason to it, they're Hindu. Religious ascetics abound over in India, professing the power of Brahman and living piously to cleanse the Atman, and don't forget Krishna, because he can come to earth in any and all forms, and has! Hell, according to the Hindus and the river Ganges, Jesus was Krishna in human form. With a religion this old, they must be right.

I know, but given how natural selection works, a billion Hindus drinking from and dying because of the Ganges should leave a hardened core of immortals within a number of generations.

I am reminded that when Ghandi went from village to village, the first thing he always tried to teach was basic hygeine.

Are you kidding? The whole country was already arse-raped by Britain and sectarian violence, not to mention dirt-poverty and the complete lack of hygeine.

I don't want to insult you or stir up a hornet's nest, but even after of hours reading facebookfails.com last night, that is still the stupidest post I've read in a long time.

No, I don't say you're an idiot, Grakelin.

On the contrary, I respect most of what you've posted that I've read. But this one was just ignorance, paranoia, trolling or all three.

I'd say your response to it says more about you than it does about me.
