Well Gross, I would say either wait for CB4.0, or go Lite.

I switched from XP to Vista for one reason: Dell flat didn't offer XP on the model I was using and I was too lazy to downgrade manually.

XP Lite? *shudders* One of the people who worked in my job before me was a BIG fan of XP Lite. We're still finding machines that need to be imaged thanks to his installation of that... if you know what you're doing, very precisely, it works... but he went willy-nilly disabling things.

Of course. Microsoft isn't going to make it -easy- to disable features.

The days when people knew every program in their computer are long gone. Everything's too bundled together.

    QFT.

Though there may indeed be people on this very forum who are well acquainted with ALL of their PC's software, I'm not one of them. I am, however, of the persuasion that if I didn't put it there and it's not system-vital, I don't need it.

Gross, what does QFT mean? Also, they actually do make it easy to disable features. IF you know what you're doing. :)

oh, and I apply that to both XP and Vista. ;)

In fact, Urbandictionary or Encyclopediadramatica might be an even better friend in times like this.

Not only are both your links longer than the one I posted, both are larger loads too, so if you, say live in the middle of Australia, they will take noticeably longer to load.

Last time I checked, Silvio didn't live in Australia, but in a place at least remotely similar to what you might call "civilization".

I don't. I live in the America. We invented Rock'n'Roll, Rap, Muscle Cars, Nuclear weapons, and just about everything else related to societal construction. Also, Xz, I can't be bothered to google such things. I've much better things to do... like absolutely nothing.

I was going to post a new thread about this, but I thought I'd do that here.

Did anyone else hear about the bugs in Internet Explorer which actually allows hackers to Type-Read (where they keep track of your keystrokes) your computer, even while offline?

The analyst that was interviewed yesterday on the government channel actually suggested Firefox and Thunderbird, not just for the time being, but for forever.

Microsoft just released a patch this morning, but I hvaen't installed new updates of IE since we got our new computer. Basically the thing crashes every time it's updated with IE (but not with everything else, for some reason). Perhaps my computer is trying to tell me something. Whatever it is, I don't do internet banking etc, so I'm safe.

Also, the government decided to push the largest telco aside (Telstra) because the idiots thought the government wouldn't serious look at anybody else. So yes. Broadband speed here is still down the crapper. Stupid island-ness. Singapore has bloody free broadband everywhere, and that's about twice as fast as the fastest connection here. But I guess that's because they're not in the middle of the ocean.

And now I'm rambling. See what you made me do??

    I never heard of Thunderbird.

I never will internet banking, but I know someone who is doing this. Should I tell him to stop using it?

This is the fourth time an error like that has occurred with IE that I can remember. Each time it's a different hole in the program that's exploited. Each time it's patched and about 6-8 months later they need to do it again.
