Is there a schematic for sheet metal in Car Arcanum?

    That's pretty much all I had to say. I'm asking because I just found a schematic for dwarven steel, and I need sheet metal to make concussion grenades.

    Sorry Gross, you're out of luck there.

    That is the dumbest thing ever. It seems like I can replicate or create just about everything but sheet metal! Most of what pisses me off about this is it takes one sheet metal per explosive grenade to make ONE concussion grenade. You'd think that you would use one sheet metal and maybe 3 explosive grenades, but the schematics aren't designed that way.

    The Black Root smith has it.

    Gross: You've got me thinking - what would be a couple of good unused items for sheet metal? Perhaps metal shavings and ??

    Metal shavings and steel maybe? You know, you can always go into the data files and edit the schematic to make more concussion grenades. I did that with mine so that it would make three. Ofcourse the Car Arcanum mod might hide its files a bit better than vanilla Arcanum.

    That's actually part of my problem. Stuff in Car Arcanum is a little tougher to locate than in regular or Vanilla Arcanum, so editing schemata, while possible, may be more trouble than it's worth.
    However, I think that using Pure Ore and a Kathorn Crystal would be fine for making sheet metal.
    Since dwarven steel is dwarven ore and a kathorn crystal, it would make sense (to me at least) to make sheet metal's schematic similar.

    How about a mixture of pure ore and metal shavings for the sheet metal?
    Both are easy to come by and there is no use for those damned shavings anywhere else.

    In Car-Arcanum the schematic_text.mes is located in the mes folder, while the schematic.mes is in the rules folder of the Arcanum5.DAT.

    If you do decide to unpack the DAT here's a little something you might be interested in adding:

    {1160}{Create Dwarven Ore}
    {1161}{Ever wonder how the Dwarves create their fabulous ore? Well, wonder no more! By combining pure ore with an equal amount of heartstone you can create not one but two chunks of Dwarven ore. Marvelous!}

    //Create Dwarven Ore
    {5290}{1160} //Name
    {5291}{1161} //Description
    {5292}{543} //Drawing
    {5293}{15085} //Pure Ore
    {5294}{15182} //Heartstone
    {5295}{15122} //Result
    {5296}{2} // Result Amount

    Well hey! Guess what I'm doing!
    EDIT:Ooo this is gonna be good. I'll post a picture of my final product!
    EDIT::Ah crap! I ran into a snag. I don't know how to make a proto for my new schematic, so I can't put it in a shopkeeper's inventory. However, I DID edit the concussion grenade to give me four new explosives instead of a direct one to one ratio.

    Hey Gross, you don't need a proto, just take one of Chrisbeddoes' schematics that you don't like, say Replicate Bandages as an example, change the text and schematic listings, then start a new game. The new schematic will be in some merchants' inventory on a one-shot basis.

    Well...ok. That one and replicate mushrooms never does me any good.
    Thing is, my custom backgrounds aren't working as they should now, and I'm not sure if my custom schematics will be any different.
    EDIT: I caught my mistake. In the effect.mes, I put the background number twice in the effect line, so instead of
    I put
    And my background effect was essentially the number 345, which does nothing. But I caught it! Unfortunately, I deleted one of my save games at thanatos because the background didn't work at the time...

    Just don't forget to change the numbers from what I posted and you'll do fine.

    Yeah I got all of that squared away. Now I'm just waiting on a blacksmith/inventor/junk dealer to have the schematic.

    Yeah, it's a double post. I'm trying to figure out the proto number of the schematic I changed to make Sheet Metal. I altered the "Replicate Mushrooms" schematic. Is anyone able to speed me along so I can put the number into a shopkeeper's inventory?

    There is no proto for Chris's schematics. They were individually created and added to a merchant's inventory.

    Given that it was Replicate Mushrooms you changed, haunt the herbalists and gypsys.

    How did he get them to appear as schematics if they have no proto?
    Ah, never mind. I'm just going to edit a schematic I already know.

    I did it! And, because if the ingredients, the thing ended up as a Smithy schematic. Take a look:

    Looks great, Gross! Nice work. One little thing though - to make the artwork look like sheetmetal instead of ore, change the drawing number to 700.

    Chris (and anyone else) is able to create completely new schematics by using World Ed to actually create a new schematic item, then insert it into the inventory of a merchant or chest. It's the same process that allows for new books, notes, newspapers, and telegrams to be added to the game on a one time per creation, non-renewable basis.

    You can make a hundred written items that say the same thing and they'll work just fine in the game, but will not be replenished once they're taken from that particular inventory.

    Case in point, this was one of Chris' schematics that I added to my hack:

    I wonder... is it possible to create magick stuff with custom schematics? Like, you combine a regular staff with a potion of greater fatigue restore and voila, a magick staff?

    OH GOD I JUST INVENTED MAGICK CRAFTING IN ARCANUM WOOT WOOT WOOOOOOOT!!!!!

    To answer your question: Yep!

    I hate myself for having to say this, but...... Chris beat you to it.
    Car-Arcanum has schematics for Arcane Armor, Staff, Axe, and Mace.

    You have to have the created item identified, but that's a small thing.
