'Ello! I've had Arcanum for about a year I think, and am just now giving it enough quality time to truly appreciate it. anyway, now i'm obsessed, blah blah blah, anywho. after many many failed character attempts (around level 13-14 i started over... like four times i think) I've finally come to a character I enjoy playing. I'm a half-orc melee fighter/thief. of course, the obvious disadvantage is the low charisma, so i put a few points into that so I can have at least two followers. I would appreciate any reccomendations or forewarnings of things to come from anyone who has played a similar character. More specifically, I'm having a hard time getting level 1 dude in the alley in tarant to refer me to the thieves guild. Anyone know if I need higher charisma (8?). i have a charming medallion (ristezze) and a negotiators ring i got from the tailor i killed (+20 reaction). Preciate it guys and gals.
Theives Guild I think you have to talk to Lukan the Witless and get him to tell you about the Theives guild, which requires charisma That is the only way I have been able to do it anyway Maybe if you went and did the quest for the guy that lets you in before he asks you to (get the sewer map from the city building with the Tarant archives in the basement)
You should see a lady in a dress on a nearby street corner, ask her if she knows anyone offering work, if you got the right lady she'll take you to her house, she'll give you a quest, once you've done it the man outside her house can tell you how to get into the thieves guild. Welcome to the forum!!!
You needed to get info about the Thieve's Guild from the bridge gang in shrouded hills. Two ways I know of to do that, one involves persuasion. The other entry is the lady that Evil Assassin mentioned.
Update: Preciate the replies and welcomes. Since I have such incredibly low charisma, I had to tough talk the guy at the bar at Madam Lil's after I stole the elven tombstone for the woman, but I got the info. I tend to never see anybody playing half-orcs, probably because you don't get much cooperation. But sheez, as far as playing a melee character. I just finished the black mountain mines and gained five levels while I was in there. Of course, I had to put up with Virgil and Magnus's incessant stupidity. I don't think I'll drop Virgil (I like him, nonetheless) but Magnus is getting the boot if I can find another follower.
If you have enough charisma you can pick up another dwarven follower on the isle of despair. Half orcish characyers make good magi, if you want to get lots of spells as they have high constitution, however half-ogres make better fighters as they have more strength.
I play a lot of 1/2 Orcs, mostly girls. Their high ST & CN along with the starting fighting stats are more than worth the drop in CH & BE. Try these hairy eared sweethearts: Barbarian, rocking start for a battlemage. Miracle Operation, for a gunslinger. Debutant, for a diplomat either tech or mage. Sickly, for a techie. There are ways around the low BE & CH without spending CPs but even so, I mostly avoid the BE & CH lowering backgrounds for the 1/2 Orcs.
Beauty & charm will get you through times of no money much better than money will get you through times of no beauty or charm. Add charisma & there are no times of no money. And thats in the real world. They make such a terible mess on the street. And the dead guards just make more mess.
Heh, I raised my charisma with my dwarf from like 6 to what it is now, 17 And soon master persesuation... But I couldn't get that Dark Elf leader to eh... you know what with me, which I have heard you can Well, I kind of like the conversations in the game more then everything else in it... Ooooh, this game r0xX0rZ
And no, not joining up, rather "parental entertainment" Anyway, I think persesutaion is a really great skill...
