The general gist of things is that Arcanum isn't working for me. Hopefully, I've posted this in the right forum.

I've installed Arcanum and patched to 1.074. Though the install failed to add two .dat files, I added all of the ones from the play disk into the module folder. I then applied the latest unofficial patch and tried to run it from there.

I have this annoying problem that, despite whatever windows computability settings and safe mode options I use, my screen turns black for several seconds and then returns me to my desktop.

What am I doing wrong, what can I do, etc. ?

EDIT: I don't have vista, but I do have a 64bit something. I can't quite remember what it is, but it's there.

There are quite a few people who'd be better suited to help you, but... Which .dat files did you place in the modules folder? The only .dat files in there should be Arcanum.dat and Vormantown.dat. Then the numbered .dat files should be in the main Arcanum directory itself. Arcanum1.dat, arcanum2.dat, etc.

I'm not sure how the 64bit system may affect it, but as always, modern technology is a heap of troubleshooting.

Did you try running the game unpatched?

EDIT: Arcanum works, without sound, on the 32 bit machine. Thanks for the help so far.

    Prior to your above edit:
Worth a shot. Doesn't sound like your average error, and I hate nothing more than discussing the inner workings and builds of computers. Ever since a power supply blew up an inch or two from my face... Anyway, if you encounter any further trouble simply leave a post and someone will likely pick it up sooner or later.
