Honestly. Why do I train in a Japanese budo art when I could do something which absolutely reeks of steampunk, gaslight romance and ambient violin orchestras?

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4tC5O7HV_KY&hl=sv&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4tC5O7HV_KY&hl=sv&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Can't stress that last point hard enough, that is some solid Arcanum module music material right there.

We'll give it a few years more of training, then I suggest that the two of us meet up and beat the shit out of each other.

The winner gets to select the loser's new rank and avatar.

EDIT: There ought to be a metric fuckton of martial arts clubs in Bergen, what with it being a student city and all, so finding something to do can't be too difficult. And you need the exercise you sedentary oaf!

Amy takes capoeira. She's absurdly good at it.

I hate capoeira. I've encountered some of them, and I reckon that the best way to counter them in real life would be to simply kick the living daylights out of them while they're on the ground squirming like maggots and hopping like frogs.

Christie Monteiro is quite invincible in Tekken however, especially in the hands of a player whose modus operandi consists solely of continuously mashing all the gamepad buttons at once.

I didn't play much Tekken in my life, but I recall Eddie being good/irritating with the fact, that you never know if at the moment he's about to attack or just continues his dancing around. Not sure how unforeseeable real life capoeira fighters are and if that goofing around doesn't cost them more precious energy than actually fighting. Yet in terms of unpredictable no one will beat Doctor Boskonovitch. Boy was he a kick.

What's good about Capoeira in real life is how physically demanding it is. Training that for a few months ought to give anyone who's even half-serious about it the endurance and agility to handle most situations that call for physical fitness.

Sherlock Holmes used this form of martial arts. Not sure if that's in the video, my speakers haven't been unpacked yet.

Oooooooh, I think I want to train in this one. How very steampunk!

And I knew it was Pachebel's Canon long before the end credits. Trust me, hear something enough times growing up... I used to listen to it on my Walkman, when such things were the fashion, while everyone else around me was listening to bubblegum pop. I swear, I was born in the wrong century...

This strikes me as one of those novelty arts that would be awesome to learn but practically useless in real-world situations. It's not like everyone carries around walking canes anymore. Still though...

Xiao, be thankful you could listen to music at all. I spent my childhood wondering what the fuck everyone was getting out of their shitty walkmans, stupid facial expressions and oversized headphones (I still wonder the same thing about pop).

Grakelin. it was mentioned in the video; I'm just sad he didn't employ it more often in the stories.

The problem with most people who practice capoeira is that they think it's an actual fighting martial art. It's not. It's a dance with fighting moves incorporated, that's very physically demanding, and gets you in peak performance condition for other martial arts.

All martial arts have strengths and weaknesses, and the best way to get any good at actual fighting is to crosstrain.

Or learn how to use a ranged weapon so the guys who trained in martial arts die before they get to you. (Been playing in the revamped Temple of Seasons in the original NWN. Arcane Archer = Win.)

Arcane Archers suck actually. By the time you're able to turn mundane arrows into +5 ones, better arrows than that are typically found in rain barrels. And that is not taking into account the fact that ranged combat is already gimped as it is in the Aurora engine.

Of course, this might be less of an issue in custom modules.

As for the martial arts vs ranged weaponry thing... unless you're carrying a concealed firearm with you at all times, knowing the basics of how to defend yourself could be handy.

No, they'd end up Chris Farley clones.

That picture reminds me of a guy I heard about who, when he found out that the girl he had just scrumped had the clap, freaked out and proceeded to scrub his genitals with bleach. Didn't go so well for him, nasty chemical burns.

Did he wind up getting the clap, anyway?
That would be real icing for his cake.
