I also call it Sweden...why does everyone think Americans are so stupid? It's not like everyone's the 43rd president over here. Ok, our educational standards are a bit...low. But that doesn't mean there aren't smart people living in the country.

Have I told you how much I love those little folding knife-things you guys make? They're fucking amazing, with all their tools and a toothpick! Who ever expects the toothpick?!

Hey Drog: You still loving Shanghai? It's been like 2-3 weeks you've been there, hasn't it?

It's all right, I can send you a home-made Swedish Army Knife (Tm). We learn how to do these things at an early age in school.

It is important to practice traditions.

I don't know with you poor southerners, but here in the north the above is actually true, although we are usually taught to make knives for hunting and such in school, not the unwieldy Swiss toolboxes.

Someone stole the flaying knife I was making for my father though. The knife was all done, I was just about to start with the sheath. Really hope I get to mete out that bloody revenge some day.

I think my mom's ex boyfriend stole the first knife I ever made. It was a bowie knife made from a steel stake, so the handle and blade were all one piece.

A design such as this one I take it?

Pretty clever way of making a knife out of one piece.

Of course, that's a replica of a viking age knife.

Not as elegant. It was my second blacksmithing attempt.

Hey Drog, the last time you talked about China was a mere week after your arrival. How's the central country doing you? Any new impressions after four months, now that the initial emotions have probably faded and all the new stuff became your daily bread?

I'm interested as well. Everything going swimmingly? You post here, so I'd assume you're doing well.

Yes, I like it here very much. The people are very cordial and straight-forward. Absolutely no discrimination against foreigners, unlike Japan. The Chinese really don't care what you look like or where you come from, as long as you can speak Chinese (because most people here don't speak any foreign languages). The only exception to this rule are the Japanese, they're universally despised in China (even by teenagers), but there are very good reasons for that, of course. And even though I myself haven't had dozens of my relatives slaughtered by the Japanese in the war, I still can't stand the Japanese after having lived in Japan for a few years, because they're really just a bunch of xenophobic hypocrites. Their history books still teach that Japan basically did everything right in WWII. FFS.

Anyway. My studies are also progressing rather well, my Chinese is getting better and better by each day. I'm working rather hard on it, I'm one of the best students in our university and was able to win a government scholarship recently. I'd really like to do everything to stay in this communist dream.

That's awesome. It's one thing to have a dream, but you're living it out. Good for you!

It's a chengyu. The literal meaning is something like "to bend one hundred times, but not yield". Basically, never give up, no matter what.
