First off, I hope that long subject line doesn't mess up the tables. Oh well, I'll find out.

    The point of the post:
Anyway, what are some of the things you do to keep yourself occupied when you can't connect to the internet?

    The long boring part:
This question is sparked by The Time of Great No Internetâ„¢ that me and millions of others went through a couple of days ago. Not being "on" fucking sucked. I started finding little things I could've done on-line. For example, I had to get directions to a restaurant that I'd never been to. No problem, right? YAAAHOOOOOOOOoooooo! WAIT A SEC! THERE'S NO INTERNET! Blargharghgearg... Movie times? Blararhrrgragrggargg...
Oh yeah, I wanted to grab a couple songs! Blaargrhgrrgrhgrr...
Man, I'm horn- er... you get the point.

So, in the two short* days of unconnectedness, I had to find ways of occupying my time. All right, I'm fine. I can handle this. Or so I thought. TV sucks. I'd read all my books at least twice. I tried smoking constantly, but I ran out, and the pain in my chest only kept my attention for 30 minutes max.

Then I found a piece of paper with a bread recipe on it. "French Bread Baguette" it said. And so I kneaded. And floured. And baked. And baked. And baked. I now have more bread than I can possibly eat (not to mention a new addiction. It turns out breadmaking is very zen-like and soothing to the soul).

So now with an excess of baked goods, I figured why not give some to the homeless? My sister knows a couple of people that volunteer at a homeless center and they hand out soup at nights. I call her up, we go drop off my excellent baguettes. Along the way, I mention my problem to her, and she says, "why not spend your time doing something useful?" Sure why not...

Fast forward about an hour, and I'm sitting on the toilet crocheting beanie caps for the homeless. I just threw in the toilet part for atmosphere, see. It doesn't really have anything to do with the crocheting.

And that's it. My lack of Internet basically turned me into some freakish bread making, harberdashing, benefactor of the poor. With angina (that's chest pains, you perverts).

Now that the internet is back, I can sit here posting all day rather than spending hour after hour helping to feed and clothe the homeless during the cold Christmas season! Thank you AT&T! And thank you House of Lords!

Interesting. I tend to play games, read or watch movies (we have around 300 videos at my house).

I've been spending too much time here lately - several hours a day at least, sometimes up to 5. I've got to start posting less . That's why, from now on, I am going to stop giving advice to people about Arcanum. It's not that I don't like the game or don't want to help, it's just that I don't have the time to make lengthy, helpful comments. So, I'm sticking to the RPG forum and General Discussion. I also have no idea why I'm posting this in this thread.

Why not go to a bar next time and drink till you pass out. Then, when you wake up in your vomit, drink to get that bad taste out of your mouth and to get sobre again, then go home and sleep till the next morning. Then go to the local brothel without showering first . Now, that's something to do when your broadband provider goes bankrupt.

Pfft...no one sleeps all day...staying in bed is boring, unless you've just woken up...then you stay in as long as you want without feeling that you are wasting the day...

I've started hearing things late at night like mozzies that aren't there...keeps me awake...

I usually pick up a guitar when my connection's down. I write songs about my connection being down.

Yeah, then you can go get pissed together, and visit the brothel in the morning after sleeping in the gutter outside his house .

It doesn't get much closer than visiting a brothel with your friend. Especially if you're in the same room. And out of money. And drunk. On Mad Dog 20/20.
    Uncomfortably close.

I find an interesting pastime when my intenet is no longer functioning is to exhume bodies from te local cemetary. it easy and quite fun! First gather a shovel and a couple cases of rum for good measure. remember kiddies..do this at night or get thrown in jail...no wim sure youre wondering "who will dig a six foot hole for me in the middel of the nihgt..all that work..just for a corpse!" well ill tell you who. people on acid. Just give em a few hits and convince them that if they dont dig...youll feed them to the moon, who is very hungry that particualr. VOILA! Ow im sure youre wondering..what do i do now..witht this new corps i mean?? well! ill tell you!

First of all its great for practical jokes with your friends:) ever done the "flaming corpse left on doorstep" gag?? its a winner! how about the old "theres a severd testice in my mailbox" joke? another timeless classis. and imagine the look on you best friends face (especiall if theyre still on that acid yougave them....) when you tell them the ingredients of that "special soup" you made just for them. JSUt let your imagination go wild fellas! tell me.. what would you do with your very own corpse??

Why not put a dead guy behind the wheel of one of the junkies' car, put a brick on the accelerator and let the rest take care of itself?

How about faking a suicide jump with a dead guy? Simply get on top of a big building, shout how much you hate your life, push the corpse off and run for it!

Better yet, put one in bed next to your significant other so that she gets a surprise when she wakes up. Everyone loves surprises!

When the internet is down, I get yelled at. Because although I'm not the computer technician, I'm in the IT department so people think I'm the person who can help them. Otherwise when I'm not at work I'm probably not on the internet

    Ohh yeah, suggestions...
Go Autocrossing, it's fun and takes up most of a day...unfortunately these are usually only on Sundays. I'm sure you could also find some track events if you look around locally. You can also go to dragstrips and taunt people that don't know how to use a steering wheel. If you want more advanced drivers go watch some NASCAR. You'll notice that the drivers only know how to turn left...in an oval. Speaking of which you can make yourself a NASCAR game with 2 plastic lids and a marker. Just draw a car on the outside edge of each plastic lid and spin them. There you go it's your very own NASCAR game!
Send petitions, letters, go in person to FOX and complain about them transforming speedvision into NASCARVision.
Convince TVR to sell cars in the United States again
Punch holes in the tires any and all SUVs including moving ones. It's fun for the whole family and you are serving your country...actually the whole world at the same time.
See, I've already listed some fun, productive things you can do!

*edit* I really need to relearn how to type...

Well ... let's not admit defeat so easily. Contingency is everything. When my ADSL goes tits up, I generally attempt the following options:

    • Back up modem over my phone line. It's slow, but it's net
    • Walk to work (15 mins), let myself in and try to ignore the trauma of being in the office during peacetime while I surf.
    • Check my relatives. Which ones:
      • (a) Will believe my "just wanted to visit" ruse
      • (b) Won't suspect my motives after I have been camped on the computer for 2 days solid
    • Pay through the nose for net
      • Pawn my computer (not to be confused with porning your computer, which seems to be what most people do online)
      • Use the proceeds to bag a comfy chair in an internet cafe

If none of these things are available, I spend my time ranting at my ADSL customer service drones.

Yea buddy... While yooure here in a message board telling us were boing im out ther having some real fun digging up bodies in a graveyard. (ok..mabyu not righ tn NOW.. im jsut responding to yur post) BUt the point it.. we need more people out there putting our dead bodies to use. and then when youre done playing with the..jsut toss em aside (theyre biodegrageable with nitrogen rich bacteria..which meants more plants...which means more photosynthesis..and more oxygen for eeeeeevvveeeerrryyyooonnneee!)

oh yea. i got a new use for a corpse. IT would be really funny to get an automized bike and then attach the corpse to the bike as if it wer riding it. Try to place it in a very ergonimacilly unsound position. Step two: chase areound the local children. Occasionally park the bike in front of someones house ..right the dorbell and run. Collide with oncoming traffic. Imagine the poor buggar tht has to explain to the police over the ohon..."so theres this flaming corpse on mountain heading right for me..."

My point is..is we DO have a lif mr...youre all boring.
