I guess this is where I post this, so I apologize in advance if I am in error. I saw there is a car hack for Arcanum, but I am wondering if there is anything for an aeroplane for the game. You know, something that would allow technologists to zip around to any location with ease like mages do with teleportation. It could involve using Heironymous Maxim and either providing him with the necessary funds or materials to build it. I just wanted to see if there was anyway of leveling the playing field for techs so you don't have to spend time just sitting in your chair waiting for your characters to travel around while getting attacked by really weak monsters.
It's definitely possible, but a very demanding process. You'd definitely need a custom plane model/graphic to put into the game, and you might actually have to use the properties of teleport to use the plane effectively.
But it would be SO worth it. I would've done this a long time if it wasn't for the fact that I can't make the WorldEd out.
It would take about 2 minutes to whip up a technological item which casts an unresistable version of teleport. However adding a plane graphic to the game would be a bitch because it would have to appear on all the main maps. It would ruin a lot of the continuity, unless Maxim gives you it near the end. But if you only get it at the end then what's the point? Also I think making tech equivalents of magick spells kind of spoils the variety of the game. I would like more variation between tech and magick. Would a plane be cool? Yes. Would it make the game better? I don't think so.
You have a pretty hefty point. Part of the fun of playing the tech side is not being able to do everything like it's nothing.
How much would this craft weigh and who would carry it? I suppose you could have it as a follower as with the Car. What about an airship? That would be cool. Could you modify a ship to reach inland locations(not being a programmer myself)?
Well, for an airship you could have an anchor, rope or a ladder that you would use to bring up the map screen to choose where to go. It sure would be funny to be able to anchor a blimp to the mayor of ashbury, provided the anchor itself would wight 6000 stone. I'd have to anyway, so the average NPC wouldn't be able to pick it up.
