I thought I did everything right...please help?

I wanted to make my own character and background to play with. The portrait came out right. The background came out good. But the stats are not changing like I set in the effect.mes file according to the tutorial. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know the answer to your question. Sorry. Have you tried the Hacks forum? I haven't been there, but they might have more info. :smile:

 

If you send the 3 files you need to edit (gameback.mes, effect.mes and backgrnd.mes) I can check them for you. Also, make sure you've put the files in the right folders - you need to create folders called "rules" and "mes". I forget which files go in which folder, but I'm fairly sure that effects and backgrnd go in mes and gameback in rules. Could be the other way around.

 

Hey whats so fun about cheating? There isnt much really a real game if you cheat, no fun at all. I really hate cheaters.

 

Making your own backgrounds is open to abuse, yes, but as long as you balance them, it's okay in my opinion.

Hell, I've made some just for fun, and they are pretty well balanced...I tend to give +2 ranks though, instead of +1 when giving skill bonuses...

How did cheating come up? I do not like the set backgrounds in the game. I want something unique for me to enjoy playing the game with. I did not make a super character, what fun would that be. I balanced him. I just want it to do what it was supposed to do and that is change the stats the way it is stated in the background I designed. I do not plan on playing this game multi-player. I just want to beat it all the way through and that is that. Move on to another game. So making the first and only time I play needs to be enjoyable. So hence the character I want. If the ability to edit is there why not use it? If this issue cannot be solved in the next day, I will just lick my wounds, choose a background given and beat the game and that is that.

 

well said.. don't worry they might just have misinterpreted u. I myself especially when u said talk about stats not changing, it sounds like u messed with the stats a lot. Send it to Jarinor, our expert here in background editing (I could have help u 2 only Im not playing it as of now and forgot how to edit those things)... or maybe try to download the walkthru for editing backgrounds and the likes, I know someone here made one... u'll solve this dont worry... :smile:
