Would anyone with a working BMP2Art be willing to convert an image for me? It's a 295x225 scheme pic for use with Chris' Gemology schematics.
Well, until I replaced the hard drive in the build computer, the last one I downloaded worked just fine. Now - nothing. I've reinstalled a new version from the back-up disk, gotten 2 new versions from different places, and still all I get is a empty black file. So yeah, if yours works, I'd willing to give it a try.
Freaking gmail won't let me send exe files, even when I zip them. You should have the mail now. I included art2bmp too, just in case.
Got it! Unpacked it and then made quick three tries with no luck. Still getting a black nothing. The build computer was the only one of the three I have that BMP2Art would work on, and now that I've changed the hard drive, even that seems to be gone. As in gone to the dump.....
After spending a week eliminating one possible source of the malfunction after another, I'm left with one long-shot possibility: The type of file allocation system. Since I ghosted the old drive onto the new one everything except the allocation table is (or was) identical except the allocation table. The old hard drive was a 10 gig unit that used FAT32, while the new drive is a 100 gig which uses NTFS. I'm grasping at straws here, but since there is some kind of difference between the two, maybe that slight difference is enough to mess with the program. Now, given that you seem to have little problem getting BMP2Art to work on your computer, would you let me know what allocation system your computer uses?
NTFS. How are you using it? I just drop it into the same folder as the .bmp and then drag the .bmp onto the program file. Just to double check: You have fully unpacked it?
Damn... Thought I was on to something with the NTFS... As for the usage, same as you lately. I discovered that trick by accident. Before it was start in DOS mode, run the program, then restart Windows. Command prompt rarely lets me use DOS-based software. (I have tried the old way too. Same crap.) And yes, it is completely unpacked. I have even done a line-by-line comparison between the old and new programs. They are identical.
Seven days later: Still no luck in getting the damned thing to work, even after wasting $60 on an old computer. Therefore I'm going to repeat my original request. Would someone with a working copy of BMP2ART be willing to convert a picture for me? I'd be ever so grateful.
-Looks left- -Looks right- -Listens to the crickets chirp- I'll bite. Send me a mail with some details about what you want done.
Would if I could but I neglected to keep your address. If you would please?... Update: I found the address and it's now on its way.
Glad I could help. I forgot to mention in the e-mail: The space in the image only appears if you switch directly to that schematic from a different window. As the image is complete in the link you posted it means that you had been in a schematic page before you went to the diamond schematic. Hopefully that makes sense.
Tongs: Actually, I think it does. When I opened the schematic pages they began in learned Herbology. Then I switched to the found schematics and there the new schematic was. Is this what you're referring to? Vyenna: Can't have you sitting around and getting bored, now can we?
I think you are thinking what I thought. It's a minor glitch that most of the time you would never notice. However it still annoys me that bmp2art won't let me use the exact dimensions that Troika did.
I wonder if we could get Frigo interested in debugging that program? He seems to be the local software expert. (Nice thought at any rate....)
