It gives WAY too much XP, and makes the game too easy. Okay, I know I may seem like I'm not making sense, but look at it this way, I just started playing arcanum again after finishing it a year ago, and was looking forward to a nice time. P.s. want to add here that wall of fire isn't as lame a spell as most people put it. Most people forget that wall spells give continual damage. The trick is to let the enemy come close enough to hit you (of course, put your shield of protect up!) and switch the wall on them. they will not move away, and take damage at the beginning of each round. multiple walls are even better. i managed to kill all the wolves at the starting area (you know, when you head out to shrouded hills) by using this method. now i have wall of force, and that is awesome too. back to the point, you guys remember that big, big fight at the end of shrouded hills? with the thieves? i was kinda looking forward to it, promised myself i wouldn't use grenades or anything. I had fireflash by that time, and it only took ONE DUMB round to finish those idiots. Up to this point you may think i'm just bragging, but get this : travelling from X to Y is a pain for me, as I have mainly fire spells memorized, I can't NOT use fireflash, paradoxical as it may sound (i aim to finish the game with 1 point in melee and 9 strength, just plyaing a true mage). See, damage is what counts in giving you exp, and even meeting low-exp creatures, let's say with 10 hp. I blast them with fireflash and get 30 damage each! so that excess of 20 damage still goes into my exp. it's irritating. can anyone explain a way to switch off random encounters? i tried the mod (saving into datarules) on this site but it doesn't work.
you can make something called "animal scent", which cuts down on the animal random encounters... of course, that's actually a tech thing... having never played a mage, i can't help you too much. sorry. and, uh... WELCOME!!! :wavey:
Well, I can honestly say that I was talking with Fireflash the other day, and she doesn't like you much either. She's leaving you for Virgil. Yes, Virgil. Yes. I know.
I don't think that the extra damage is actually attributed to your experience points. Overkill doesn't help you at all. Also, why not use harm if you're worried. Much better spell. Third, how can you have not played the game for a year? It hasn't been out that long.
Harm isn't an area effect spell, see, and i liked wall of fire a lot. We-ll, I bought the game last year, and I'm playing it again this year, so I haven't played it since last year . But I'm pretty sure I got it somewhere around May, so i'm not that off. And er...isn't this post going to be moved or something (sorry guys, I didn't realise I posted it wrong)
The game was complete in May, but not released, because they had to do translations and shit like that.
