I AM STUCK BECAUSE I"M A JERK TO NPC's!

ok, i cant get into bate's house to ask him about the p, schuyler and son's ring because i accepted appleby's proposal and then turned it down again, so now even if i destroy the steam engine he wont get me in, also for some reason the thing with the saboteur's hasnt ever been proposed by the captain of the guards in front of bate's house, is there any other way for me to get in? or am i going to hafta shoot my way into his house, and does that even work? also, how do i get into the closed off section of the sewers without killing everyone at the Tarantian water and power plant? is there a way into bate's mansion that way? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-?

 

I suppose you could always enter the mansion through the passageway from the cemetary. Appleby has a key to the crypt IIRC. Look for Bates's journal and then talk to him about it, though the talking bit is optional. And, if you're still intent on being a jerk, you might just want to skip all the conversations you can for the sake of simplicity.

There's a jetty sticking out into the harbor, towards the south, west of the wise woman. Follow it for the closed sewers.

 

As far as I know, just get some Servant clothes from the tailor, or from appleby's chest, and you can waltz right in, ask Bates about the ring, and then keep on going.

In general there's no "one" solution to things in Arcanum.

 

have you killed the scylurs yet? You should be given the option to help out with the sabatours if you ask the right questions of the guard.

With 3 ranks of persuation you can talk your way around the guard. But you miss out on all the exp and char rep from killing the sabatours.

So you accepted the quest from applyby, but you didn't do it, right? you just killed the sabatours? and left the steam engine alone? Then you won't get the quest to kill the sabatours. Better load a saved game and not even talk to applyby.

OR

Steal the mosoleum key off of applyby and go in the tunnel way but be prepared for traps all over the place. When you get to the end, just put on the servents clothes to see bates upstairs. BUT if you have dog with you, have him wait while you talk to bates.

You also get a fate point for going through the tunnel. BUT if you would have walked through the front door, you could have just went down the ladder qnd back up to get the point.

When i talk to the captain of the guard the only responses i get are that i cant go in, there was a recent attempt on his life etc, and with all conversation options the only results i've been able to reach (my persuasion=0) are "I've got to go now" or the option to insult the guard because he doesnt understand that i'm warning him about appleby's offer, (apparently bates's agents observed me consorting with appleby and now the captain o' the guard doesnt like me that much anymore...

who is dog?

 

A follower you can recruit only on your first visit to Ashbury. He's being kicked to death by a gnome by the inn.

BTW, thread titles written in all caps look soooooooo kewl on the main TA page. You should start more of them, and perhaps even eliminate the unnecessary spaces between the words. :thumbup:

 

dog is a level 12 fighter that you pick up around your lvl 3-6.

He's the FIRST thing you go after when you get to Ashbury. Far to the east by the hotel you find a guy beating a dog, you have to stop him and PERSUADE him to stop, or in your case you're gonna have to pay for the dog.

He is a free follower and a great fighter for you, but has no inventory. You only have 1 hr game time to get to him or you have to resurrect him, either way you get him, you keep him.

ok, i just pickpocketed the bates mausoleum key and some manservants clothes off of appleby while he slept, i know thats kind of cheating (sort of) but whatever, i just think its funny that the npcs just let you follow them into their bed rooms, just think of the possibilities (high charisma+high beauty+following strange women into their bedrooms=probably nothing more than them waking up and attacking you if you try to talk to them), anyway, there were no ghouls or anything in the mausoleaum, i just used molotov cocktails to wear down the doors till they all disintegrated and healed myself after i set all the traps off like an idiot with no trap detecting skill and basically got a fate point for blowing up doors, thanks everyone

i meant i stole the manservants clothes from appleby while he slept, and by cheating i meant that i think its kind of lame that you can just take things from people while they are sleeping even if you havent spent one point on pickpocket

the only thing i really learned was that conversation tree bugs can lead me to places in the game where no solution is apparent... i guess i'll just have to be less two faced in my dealings with opposing npc's (as in i pissed off appleby and the captain of the guard)

but at least i got into the mansion.

anyone have any idea why there wasnt anything in the mausoleum? youd think thered be hordes of undead

and since bates was an orphan, who only recently gained money/power etc. why would he need a mausoleum? he has no ancestors to fill it with!

Why are there traps I have a feeling Bates doesn't have spot trap nor do any of his guards so it can't be an escape route. Maybe a suicide atempt for Bates?

 

Maybe he don't want assasins to use that route?

 

Maybe it's to keep him safe as Master Bates masturbates.

BTW, If you want LAME stealing, try FO and FO2. You can pickpocket just about anything from anyone with NO extra skill if you do it right.
