Welcome to the forum, Seraphiny, and I hope you're still checking this thread.

OK - First off, I don't know jack about proto-editing but adding an effect to an item is easy enough for a mod or a main-game hack.

Choose or create the effect you want to use.
Now decide if you want to attach the effect via script or directly. I prefer directly.
So - Start up WorldEd and go to the area where you want the modified item to be.
You mentioned a ruby, so, go to the Items/general items menu and choose Select.
Scroll through the listings until you come to ruby and click on it, then OK.
Now place the ruby on the ground or floor close to where you want it.
Right-click on the ruby and choose Edit. This will bring up a menu.
On the left side, above the picture you'll see four listings. choose Effects Dscr.
Scroll down the listings until you find the effect you want and select it. Click OK and that part is done.
Now you can add the ruby to the chest or NPC you want it to be found in.

Another way is simple art substitution. Select an item that already has the effect you want, place it in the scene, and right-click on the item to edit it.
Right-click on the picture and that will bring a pop-up menu of related items. If something in that selection is suitable, click on it, then OK.
If your choice isn't in the section, click on the blank picture (unknown). This will clear the existing art.
Left-click on the new picture and you'll get a small pop-up where you can make further choices. Find what you do want, select that picture, and you're good to go.
Add the modified item where you want it and check it out in-game.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for your patient and detailed reply!

I have found some rules in the .pro files and fixed it ! But I am not sure if they can be applied to all items.

I have heard of this way but my worldED doesn't work so well,I unpack the Arcanum.dat and then make changes on the maps and then save. But when I open the modified map again, nothing is changed, which makes me very confused.

I have some other questions, there seem to be bugs when my companions use some spells (body of fire, body of air, body of earth and body of water). Their appearance seem to turn male human when the spell is ended. I just want to modify the AI to make my companions never release these spells. What should I do?

Good deal. You're still around. :)

    1)
This one I can help you with. Empty the Arcanum/modules/Arcanum/maps folder before every test. The 85-100 oddly-named files with no extention contained within tells the game engine what's where. Deleting them forces a recount and allows new things to show up.

    2)
    This one I don't know.
If no one can help you with this, get adventurous and start experimenting. Just be sure to have a back-up of all the files you modify, just in case.
