    Hi everyone---new here!
1- How heavy can i go for armor/weapon for thief? he has light encumbrance already, and I'm thinkin' he's gonna suffer for it.

2- Also, he's an incredible bowman but the only bow I've found so far that he can use without penalty is a plain old short bow---Is a short bow the only one he can use (He's a Gnome) and if so, where can I buy a better one?
3- Can a thief learn any schematic with no points in that discipline? I brought the multi-barrel gun over the hand to read it, but the border around the hand stays red not green---(Same question for tech manuals---can I buy ANY for my thief, of does he need prior knowledge?)

4- Finally, I'm nervous about installing the patch, even though I'll copy my saved games in another folder while I install it--other than removing the 50 exp cap, what overwhelming reason do I have to install it? I have had no problems that I know of in the game---I'm currently at level 15.

    Thank you all
    LLOU

Need to raise your Strength to use a better bow. When you equip a weapon your not strong enough to use it lights up in red and you get the MSR(minimum strength requirement) and how high of a strength you need.

For a thief the main thing is the NP or Negative Prowling penalty. Oiled Thieves Leather is about the best for thieving but not the best for combat.

Watch your encumbrance, every time it goes up you lose 2 Speed.

Shrecks Pistol is a quest only item and can't be used. Some debate on that though.

Install the patch it'll save you a lot of headaches.

Oiled Leather is probably best, there are magickal bows but they are rare, elven hunters bows are good. The Multi Barrel Pistol cannot be used as Schematic

If you are going into than area of heavy combat
you should put on heavier armor to protect your-self. This isnot like D&D computer game with character class being enforce tighly.
