well first off welcome kilnar :wavey:

all you need to do with tech manuals is keep them in your invetory when you want to make something, they are used automaticaly by adding to your tech rating in that particular field ie electricity.
also find a place to store them when not needed as they are frikin' heavy.
    good luck.

So if I have 2 points in smithy and have a smithy manual, I can make feather weight axe?

And are there tech items or spells that can only be learned through play, or are they all gotten by points?

Another thought occured to me too.. If I wanted to play a mage, but be able to make tech stuff for followers or whatever, could I do it by just buying 7 manuals of each tech and holding them to make the appropriate items?

And I recall using an intelligence potion to get advanced degrees, then being told I don't have the expertise to make said item when I tried later. Do you have to have the intelligence for a load of manuals to work?

    Ehurm!

Your'e giving poor kilnar some bad aswers here. The manuals are only useful for FOUND schematics (which followers can't learn). Feather-weight axe must be bought with cp just like a spell.

Actually, I bought 1 herbology manual. It didn't affect what I could make when it was in my inventory. But when I put it in my belt, I went from being able to make just fatigue restorer (level 2) to being able to make the 3rd 1. I hadn't even thought of multiple books at the time. Will when I get back to Tarant.

That trick don't work for me. At least not with gunsmithy or theurapethics.

Gonk is right, those manuals are useful only when u have the necessary ingredients, because you can never make a pyroaxe without a featherweight axe which is not a found but a bought by cp schematics.
