I bought the game from a friend and it has no manual with it. I'm at a loss as to how to get that 2000lb piece of garbage to do something.

I think Automatons and arachnids are bugged in the original version. You probably need a patch.

I have the patch and the bloody thing still sits there like a lump. Not really sure what else to do about it.

Pick it up & throw it. Again if necessary.

To elaborate, pick it up, put it in the little round window to the top left in your inventory, then point somewhere you want to chuck it. Now it gets up and wanders around, hitting things that don't like you occasionally.

Alternatively, you can put it in one of the hotkey slots at the bottom of the screen, exit the inventory, press the hotkey number, and click the general direction you want to throw it. Sometimes you'll misfire though, and you'll have to do it again. You'll know you've done it right when a set of gears appears in the little follower list on the left side of the screen.

Automatons can level, but they don't invest the points, so they only get the bonus +2 hp and fatigue everything gets when it levels. Folding them up though (to get them repaired for instance) makes them lose any acquired levels. No big loss though, it has no effect on them. Wait until you get an army of the suckers though - no one will stand in your way!

You can heal them with healing skill & bandages. Also they self repair when you sleep.
