How do I get a quarter point in throwing?

I guess because I'm playing a half elf, I start 1/4 point in the hole in combat skills. Well Clarissa won't train me in master because I don't have the full 5 points.

you can't! it won't take it!

there has to be an item out there that will raise throwing,

Maybe when you get one of the blessing of one of the gods it will raise it you sure you don't have an item that lowers it. maybe you don't have enough Strength to put it up? :roll:

 

Actually, I never had a problem with 4 and 1/2 in throwing.
The sweetie still trained me.
There is no way to raise it anymore except by somehow lowering it half a point.
Yes, backgrounds and race can have this effect.

 

i never knew being a half elf did this i am lucky i choose to a Elf instead
i still think it might be his characters background.

 

I just finished the module vormantown playing a half elf and had the same problem. 4 3/4 ranks but when I had the dex up to 21 (using rings and spells) I noticed that my throwing was a full 5 ranks.

THere is no race that has a throwing penality. Several backgrounds give a - to combat skills. The easiest way to loose 1/4 point in a combat skill is to push it with a DX booster, such as AoF or Charged Rings & then drop the boost. 5 points in a DX dependent skill is acquired at DX 18.

 

also, you can buy 1/4 and 1/2 points worth of training.

i ran around SH with my starting char, and randomly asked everyone "Train me to be an Apprentice in .... ?" for any option that came up. there were several that answered me with "For $92 i will". when i accepted it, partial points were awarded.

i currently am "Apprentice" with only 1/4 pt in the following:

...prowling
...spot trap

and 1/2 pt in:

...pickpocket

if your wearing thieves leather you receive 1/4 point in your theiving skills and can be trained. You don't have to have a full 3 points to be expert either.

so your saying when you train as expert or apprentice you get a bonus 1/4 point in that skill?

Why do you suppose that is? Because it's not true? Vesselle either mistyped or forgot about the thieves leather. Which Parmanian already pointed out, as you'd see if you'd read the thread.

It's probably my fault anyway, playing a protege I loose that 1/4 point that shadygrove reminded me of! and the dexterity boost to 20 gets it back and clarissa trained me.
