Are they even going to make Arcanum 2? They should, but that doesn't mean they will. Have they said anything on the subject?

I'm not sure if they've said Definitely Not, but I have the impression that it's a non-starter. You know, what with the poor sales, the warez leak, the lack of support from Sierra.... There's talk on the official board about making a petition for a sequel, but I've little faith in such things.

Seems this board is just for blowing smoke out of our collective ass. Might as well be merged with Hints & Tips to make one general Arcanum board, keeping with the new All Things Troika theme.

Well aren't I Little Miss Negativity today. :/

There was a massive Warez leak, so everybody just got their copy off the 'net.
Warez leaks is quite possibly the main reason why games are all going online multiplayer... due to ability to check if your game is legal using CD-Keys.

I can understand why online games are more populair by the creators
just look at quake3 (fps game) right now, they even can check (and kick/ban you) if you are using a too high angle of vision, or models for your enemies which have big spikes on it for better vision

hmm I went a lil offtopic.
about the warez leak, I have heard that sierra have waited with bringout the game for translations prob for a 'couple' of months while the was a copy on the internet
    don't know this for sure

ps mine version of arcanum has a box+book

    YOU BASTARD!!!

(And I mean that in the most loving way possible, yes I do. :) )

I'm actually considering getting a second copy of Arcanum just so I can have the guidebook. I think Fry's has it on sale for like $12, not bad.

The manual was overrated. Sure, it looks good and it's thick and reads well but it tells you absolutely sod all about the game. As a book it's not bad. As a manual it sucks. :-(

You're double posting again. If you want to make a change to something you've said then for goodness sake use the edit function rather than resubmitting the post with a single line change.

There are few things more annoying on a forum than reading through several consectutive posts by the same user, especially if they're all more or less the same.

Plus it's one of the best ways to piss off a mod that I know of (other than telling him he sucks and then telling him for the nth time that the board is dying and it's his fault). :)

I dont think Arcanum sold well because it wasnt advertised well. (i could be wrong though). I never heard of it until a friend of mine stumbled across it and started telling me about it. Then I had trouble actually finding the game. I eventually did and am very glad. Its a great game and a true shame that Sierra doesnt support it now.
I think the manual is a great read.

several things before i go off and buy my subway sandwitch of love
1 the manual was great, there was some great backround stuff and also i lived the thing about the aprentice master expert thing in the different skiils
2 the game was great, it will be the worst thing in the world if one doesnt get amde eventually.
3 i dont even remember any of the ads, plus i learned about it from a PCGamer review that i read, it seemed like the kind of thing that i would love. I think that trokia was planning to sell it by word of mouth, from one rpg lover to another.

I don't remember any ads either. I found it while wandering around Wal-Mart, around when it first came out there I believe. It was one of the only games that actually caught my eye automatically. A few weeks later, I got some money from something, and went and bought it. I was hooked...

The lack of sales doesn't surprise me. I don't know anyone around here that actually knows of it, unless I tell them. And believe me, I do tell them...

I would love an Arcanum 2. I don't see it actually coming out, but I'd absolutely loveee it.

Personally, the main turnoff is probably the rating. I mean, kids see the game and the pleasing cover and they think It must be really cool!, then they go up to buy it and (someplaces) the cashier says, "Are you eighteen?" And of course they're thinking If this lady honestly thinks I'm eighteen she's stupid. So they either try to lie (In which she asks for ID and they say "Oh, sorry must have forgotten it") or they tell the truth and she says that they need they're parents to come with them to get it. Now, some parents don't care about stupid "mature sexual themes", but other parents flip when they see this. All of this confusion doesn't seem worth it to someone who knows nothing about the game, which goes back to what was said earlier about lack of advertising (Very True). I think that they either need to get rid of the things that make it MATURE or simply advertise better in the second one.

Do cashiers really ever actually check for kids' ID when they buy video games, except when they've got a regional manager breathing down their neck? Hell, I haven't even been carded for alchohol since I was, what, like 22. I can't imagine anyone checking for the game rating and considering "Mature" a turn-off.

Well okay, I can imagine CERTAIN SORTS OF PEOPLE avoiding M games, but they're not likely the main audience for Arcanum anyway. Probably consider the Sims to be a bit on the lewd side....

Nononononononopleasegodnooooooooooooo. There are already far too many CRPGs suitable for children and not adults (Baldur's Gate springs to mind). If anything I would want more Mature content. Not necessarily pornographic content, or anything excessively crude, but just good, mature, adult content in the way combat and relationships are portrayed.

Plus I'd like to see more effort put into keeping children out of R-rated films so I can actually enjoy them. Oh, and I wish they'd stop playing on my lawn. :mutters grumpily:
