Higher Education for Followers?

Is it possible for my followers to gain apprentice or expert or even master in some of their skills? My followers refuse to hit enemies with their weapons and i'm hoping that if they can apprentice their skills that they might actually hit something. Its kinda sad that I can kill 6 or 7 things with my stupid boomerang in the time it takes Virgil and Jayna to bring a monster down to half its life with their swords or whatever.

 

Open a new game and choose Educator as your background.

 

that can't be the only way, can it? there has to be some way within the game without having educator as a background to have your followers be worth the junk they carry.

 

I'm afraid that is the only way possible. :sad:
