Here's the article, or at least the one I read for it. Pretty exciting stuff if it is Higgs Boson, as it would be a significant step in confirming that most theoretical physics is correct. As per usual, science is awesome.

Well I was going to post a serif font in response to restore validity, but I can't find one! Apparently no one cares enough to give it a classy font.

I thought this would actually be big news but when I heard about it and put on a morning show there was just a load of filler segments as if it was a slow news day (one about a football museum that had just opened - yeah, I'm sure a lot of people care about that). Maybe science isn't as attention grabbing as it used to be.

I expected a mention, televised news was all to keen to report on CERN when they thought it was going to end the world.

Potential end of the world -> bad news -> newsworthy
Scientific progress -> good news -> not newsworthy

    Pretty much what Muro said.

It would seem that television news is pretty much the same the world over. That is to say, bad.

Still I thought it would rate higher than a news story about a football museum - the museum looked so crap that I doubt avid football fans would even want to go there. I know the news favours bad news but usually when there's no bad news to be had good news is put on in it's stead.

Was all over the news in Australia, was funny too because they implied the audience wouldn't understand the science involved.

Obviously, most of society will be laymen with regards to high-end physics; it is the job of scientific journalism to make such information understandable to the masses.

As is the prerequisite of many forms of mass-publication, the wording must be dumbed down to suit the abilities of the audience. It's why many circulated magazines and newspapers in the US will make their material simple enough for the average 11 year old to read it.

See, that's how you usher in the age of Newspeak and the Ministry of Truth.

The moral of the story: inhale Higgs Bosons and you become a chaos spawn.
