It's really sad that after the all the time I've spend on computers and the Internet, I still don't know how to access newsgroups...

My dad says he wishes the Internet was never invented becuase of the misuse of it. In some ways, I agree. The porn/hentia, I mean. He says that a law shoud be passed, that anything with porn/hentia in it should be at www.*site name here*.xxx, OR xxx.*site name here*.com, etc, or be illegal. So, if it didnt start with xxx. or end with .xxx, it would be illegal to post it. That way, a simple filter could be made to get rid of that stuff, and you wouldnt have to worry anymore! Logical?

Anyway, I think it's going to be interesting in 25 or so years when studies are conducted about the effects of porn on the kids growing up nowadays. I think the stuff just isn't that shocking to them. They've grown up with porn being available everywhere unlike when we were growing up. Back then we'd have to dig through our dad's drawers or go to the bookstore and steal playboys or penthouses. Now kids get on any p2p network and download the hardest core shit out there.

I think they'll eventually get desensitized to the whole thing. Or turned off by the raunchiness of it.

Maybe. I'm not sure the desensitization will have a good result, though. It's one thing to be open about nudity and normal sex, but letting kids think porn represents real sex is just scary. The only images they see of sex are all based on fulfilment of male fanatasies in some pretty extreme ways. Since, they don't see any real sex, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up pursuing porn-like scenarios in their own lives. That could lead to a lot of frustrated men and hurt women.

 

The internet wasn't invented, it was a product of internetworking research starting back in the 70's.

As for that .xxx or xxx. thing, that's actually not a bad idea...Although good luck busting people who don't adhere to it, since enforcing the law over the internet is notoriously difficult.

So very, very true Fatman. I know that hasn't done me any favours. Seeing porn early isn't good for young minds - at most it should be an erotic aid to couples, or men who are temporarily between relationships. That's all I think it should be, but hey, people want more, and who are porn directors and actors to disagree? It's a 10 billion dollar industry in the US alone, and I wouldn't mind a slice of that pie myself...


Note to everyone out there - avoiding sending kids to a secondary boarding school. You might think you're doing them favours, but I guarantee that they will have access to so much porn it would make your head spin. At one stage, we had enough magazines for every person to have at least 2 just in our boarding house (there were 4 of them) and there were only 60 odd of us.
