    Hello all,

I'm trying to get arcanum working with the high res patch, but to no avail. This is what I have done so far:

    1. Installed Arcanum
    2. Patched to 1074
    3. Installed the high res patch (from the arcanum directory) using highres.bat, trying both 1280*1024 and 1600*1200 as desired resolution

I've looked through the readme and it doesnt seem to be clear what to do next

    What I have tried:

    1. I tried running setup-highres afterwards but the following error came up: FATAL ERROR (yes in caps, obviously a really fatal error) <Unable>

    2. I tried running the game, arcanum.exe (the fullscreen version of the file wont work, looks for binkw32.dll and mss.dll) but the resolution looks to be 800*600

    Am I missing something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I played years ago but never got to the end.

    Thanks in advance

If you're using vista/W7 is UAC still enabled? UAC has a 'virtual store' feature that forces programs to write to AppData instead of the 'real' C drive as intended...

Setup-highres doesn't work as you don't have an infinity-based game in the folder. All the bat does is run setup-highres -nogame or similar which you can try if you want.

Arcanum Fullscreen just minimises the UI and doesn't actually mean it'll run in Fullscreen mode (as either does anyway).

The loading screens and movies will only take up a portion of the screen if the high res patch has been applied.

Otherwise I'm not entirely sure what's going on, have you tried reinstalling Arcanum from disc if you have them?

    Thanks for reply Charonte

I'm running on XP so i'm guess that shouldn't be a problem.

I'm on my second install - didn't post until I had tried that.

The cinematics took up the whole screen.

Should it just change the resolution when I run arcanum.exe?

Yeah, that's the idea. You're installing into the root of your Arcanum directory correct?

    Hello Charonte,

My installation directory is c:\sierra\arcanum; that's where the high res patch is installed.
