I have the Prima strategy guide and under many of the character schematics it lists people with max hps of 400 and so....

I have a level 26 gunslinger gnome (Con 8, Str 8) and he has 78 hit points.

How the heck do you raise them so high?

Curious if someone could explain how to affect hitpoints/fatigue points in the best way? Do I add directly to them (I am loathe to directly spend skill points) or do I crank the requisite stat?

    Thoughts and help??

    Thanks!

Velorien's blessing adds +100HP and +100FT. Also, a melee character's strength will boost the HP a lot, and "at level 50", they might have 300-400HP.

Even 150HP is more than enough for end game, so you don't need to worry about that.
