Hello there! I have a problem and I need some help. I found out that I need to visit Thanatos but there's none there wanting to take me to the island. I have spoken to a guy (I am sorry, I have stopped trying about a month ago because I have lost about 3 weeks in that matter and now I can't remember the names of the characters) in Black Root. He told me that he could help but he has lost his ship on a game. So I had to gamble with someone in the tavern to gain back the man's ship and I have won. But then the man told me that I am not a gambler and he didn't give me the ship. I have tried to make anyone of the bartenders in Arcanum to teach me gambling but all of them try to make me an expert and I do not have the lower classes. Now (after all this writing ) could anyone tell me what to do, please!
There are three ways to get a ship in Arcanum. The way you described is one way and the guy you are talking about who lost his ship is Captain Teach. That path requires gambling expertise, so you have to get the different levels of gambling evidently. I've never bothered with it because I always found the other ways easier. Another way is to simply buy a ship from the shipbuilder in Black Root. A third way is to find Stringy Pete's Cove and talk to Stringy Pete and convince him that you need his boat badly enough that he will offer to give it to you if you do three tasks to lift his curse. Seadrick, a drunk, hangs out in the same bar in Black Root where you found Captain Teach and he has a map to Stringy Pete's Cove. You have to talk to him just right and buy him a few drinks and you may even have to pick his pocket in the end to get the map, but you can get the map from him. If not, you can wander along the coast south of Kree until you finally find it or you can look it up in my location list available in the Modding Resources.
Kill Stringy Pete, its probably the hardest battle in the game, but you get his boat. If you know disarm, it becomes one of the easiest battles in the game.
