Help Me! My companions can't level up! (I'm a newbie)

(I searched and searched and couldn't find a topic on this problem at all).

I found Arcanum at a garage sale, and I am now hooked.

After a few games where I royally messed up, I think I'm on a character that's doing well. But oddly - my character is at level 25, and my companions (Virgil, Sodd Mead Mugg, Magus) have been stuck at level 14 for a long time. For my last 10 levels they have earned no experience at all, and their character profiles indicate they need something like 800,000 XP to level up!

I have the latest patch and have not used any cheats. Oddly, I think this glitch occurred when a load game came up as two naked characters next to a chest in the middle of the wilderness. I ignored it then, but it's happened one more time since then, and it reminded me that it first happened around the time my companions stopped earning experience.

I've tried re-installing, but nothing has changed. None of my companions will earn experience. This makes it near impossible to survive any high level battle at all right now. I'd hate to have to start over again, or at least go back to an old save several quests back.

Any thoughts? HELP!!!

 

It's surely a serious bug or bad version :/

 

I have reinstalled, but the problem remains - so by restart, I guess you mean start all over again with a fresh character?

Well, I've completely reinstalled the game now. Guess we'll see how it goes when I get to around level 15.

I like these boards, by the way, though I don't feel qualified to say much (yet). Although - some of you get quite snippy occasionally.

Overall, though, these are cool forums. I may have to track down some of these other games you guys talk about.

Well, many newbies are nice. It's just that we have come across many of the annoying kind, so when people think they have found one with a trait annoying noobs have (like bad spelling) they go overboard a bit. Don't worry, though, RabidWolfe, people seem to like you. Proper spelling and knowledge of the search funtion is always a boon, too.

And I know you weren't that hard on me. The only one that hated me REALLY bad was Mag, but he seems to have vanished. Does anybody know where he's gone to?

I didn't say you was. I just pointed out the fact that it's good to have one. You could have been mine, but since you won't take it seriously, I'll just have to pick someone else...
