    Trying to finish a cd

    the highlights are:
    Paint it Black
    Dream On
    Welcome to the Jungle
    Crosstown Traffic
    In the Flesh

That should give you a pretty good idea of what it sounds like. I have almost exactly 10 minutes left, any suggestions?

You should shoot yourself in the face, and then SAVE the cd by adding... either "The Lung" "Raisins" "Little Fury Things" or the live version of "Just Like Heaven" by Dinosaur Jr. and then follow it with "Throw" by 1905, and finish up the cd with "Pints of Guiness Make You Strong" by against me!. I listed a few by dinosaur jr, because they're so damned good i can never make up my mind as to which song is my favorite... and they have so many.

All of these songs are sans-screaming, and the last two are actually... acoustic i suppose. You can download them from me on soulseek if you have it. I'm still Sleek_Jeek on soulseek as well.

And if I wanted to "save" my cd I would, but since that's already my theme, and I can only fit 10 minutes on...

I'll check out dinosaur Jr., I suppose it couldn't possibly suck as much as some other bands I've heard.

well a song by dino jr would be about 4 minutes, throw is only a minute and a half, and Pints Of Guiness Make You Strong is only 2 1/2 minutes. Well under ten minutos.

I'm sure you could find something in Queen or Van Halen's back catalogue that would fit in. Off the top of my head, Who Wants to Live Forever or Under Pressure for the former, and It's About Time from the latter.

what's with you and not respecting where your shitty "music" comes from? your musicians listened to "classic" rock, and that's what inspired them. unless you like those stupid punks who just whine about their girlfriends and their parents all day.

Classic rock is so much better than the total shit that comes out these days Sleek. Seriously, 99% of the shit is a rehash of itself, no matter the genre. At least in the 60's/70's/80's people knew how to make music, and make it fucking excellent while they're at it.

Well, I sleep in the room next to Retard, with Retard's wife. I never go in his room, but I've heard what he does with the animals in there and I've seen them afterwards as well...and believe me, orgasms of any sort would be a welcome relief to the shit that I've heard.

I like some new shit, but you can't disrespect the oldies. That's where it started, Nirvana is the only 90s or later band that I would feel comfortable putting on the same level as the Stones, the Beatles, Hendrix, or the Doors, or a dozen others. And even then, no offense to Kurt, but he's on the low end of that level.

There is plenty of decent music being created, its all largely ignored though. Either way, when I talk down about classic rock, I was mainly disturbed by Dream On, and Welcome to the Jungle. The thing that really annoys me is this argument

Because its just unfair. Its so easy to claim that an established sound is so much better than whats coming out these days which is lagely untested and unproved. Its talking about the world war 2 era generation of Americans as "the greatest generation," which is nonsense in my opinion. I'd have fought hitler if it was necessary blah blah blah. Everyone else is left out of the category of "the greatest generation" because the biggest war has already been fought, etc. The point of that rant is that the solid bodied electric guitar was only invented in the early 1950's. The evolution of its music has come a long way since then, but because of this, of course its evolution is going to reach a plateau or two. Its hard to keep inventing new ways to do something, but there are still bands doing it. Yes even mainstream bands. Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello is one of the more creative guitarists of our time, J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr was/is an amazingly soulful guitarist and was a big influence on bands like Nirvana, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Sonic Youth. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Lee Ronaldo/ Thurston Moore, (of sonic youth) two totally fucked up guitarists. The Melvins... there is some truly abrasive music out there that just doesn't fit into the mold of pop-rock-metal that you gents seem to deem high art, so far I've named a lot of bands that sort of helped create the music magazine "grunge" fad, which was really just punk rock with a flannel shirt and long hair. Not that that era was very important, its just that I don't want to get too overtly obscure.

    Bad Brains...

I'd like to add that while nirvana was a pretty great band, they are by no means the best of the best that the younger generations have to offer. They were merely the poppiest, most endearing/marketable amalgamation of what was going on at the time. Ask yourself, if every song on nevermind had sounded like "Territorial Pissings" would you still have the same high regard for for them?

I'd like to add that while bands like Guns'n'Roses, Aerosmith, and the Rolling Stones are still holding up in terms of radioplay, and record sales etc, have you ever seen any of those bands play live? I've seen bands with 4 18 year olds that would blow them all away in terms of musicianship, energy, and honesty. I've never heard of an Aerosmith set going longer than 40 minutes, Guns'n'Roses... Axl Rose. The Rolling Stones? Did anyone see their recent HBO special? What a friggin catastrophe, they may have been a great band back in the day, but its totally gone to their heads, it was like watching someone masturbate in front of 50,000 screaming people that each payed 200 dollars a ticket.

That said, if you really want to talk about classic rock, then I'm going to have to ask you why no one has said anything about Creedence Clearwater Revival, Frank Zappa, or the Who. You sons of bitches.

ACDC, and Van Halen make me joygasm as well though.

I'd also like to mention that anyone who whines about their girlfriends and parents all day does not classify anyone as punk. If you really want a disgusting, stereotypical education as to what is "punk" and what is not, pm me on soulseek sometime, and I'll laugh in your face, because nothing is really punk. Its a mirage.

I'd also like to apologize if this post sounds condescending at all, its just really hard to talk to you morons sometimes.

I think your post can be summed up with the following words: music elitist.

That said, I'd like to offer comments on the following statement:

Because of those three, the Who were the only ones who could thematically fit on the CD, and even then I was only naming bands/songs off the top of my head. It's not like I was putting serious thought into it.

I'm an elitist because I can stoop to listen to music thats hasn't been played on top 40 radio stations for 20-30 years? I love that term. If you listen to big rich, widely accepted rock stars, you're mundane, but if you listen to something widely ignored by the masses, you're somehow an elitist.

It's not what you listen to (well, not 100%), it's how you state your opinions on 'worthy' musical 'artists'. The way you write, it's as if you're opinion is the only informed one, and the only worthy one, precisely because you listen to underground bands and such. Being retro doesn't make you an elitist, listening to punk doesn't make you elitist, but when you start acting as though everyone else's taste in music is inferior to yours because they like something different to you (even when it's someone who hasn't been on the radio for 20-30 years but still manages to remain popular and retain credibility) that's when you become a music dickhead.

Reamining popular is one thing, retaining credibility is another. Thats what I was talking about when I was talking about the shitty live performances and ass hole rock star antics of bands like GNR, and the Rolling Stones.

Whereas the current stars are any better? "We're all frustrated and angry at our parents, so let's make a mosh pit and beat the shit out of each other!"

Please cite actual bands. Besides, one and only band thats been mentioned that fits that description was one you brought up; Nirvana. Vague accusations like that don't help anyone's argument.
