Does anyone know how to achieve this or at least fudge something which has a similar effect? The only way that I can think of is to attach the heartbeat to an NPC which follows the player (perhaps invisible) or attach it to an NPC which stands in the corner of the sector where the heartbeat needs to be active. Both of these are less than ideal solutions.
Or perhaps to an item you carry around? Tho why do you need it as it seems unnecesary. Since you never have to interact with yourself and saving progress from the character is done by flags.
I have many, many reasons for asking this. One example off the top of my head: When the PC dies he gets transported to a hospital where he wakes to find that they have saved him and charged him 1000 gold for the service. Since the PC does not get a Dying attachment point I can't do this in the simple way I could for an NPC. I'd have to give an NPC a "IF PC is dead THEN teleport" heartbeat and have him follow the PC around.
