Is there a good reason why they took out the potion scene after the chess scene? I felt that was an extremely important part of the book.

I guess it's to do with running time. The main reason why the movies are never as good as the books is that certain things have to be left out in order to make the movie short enough to watch (ie. less than 4 hours). This invariably means leaving out certain scenes and it's up to the director to decide which ones. This is one of the reasons why directors are so important and decides which directors are good and others not - can they edit a movie so that it still retains most of the impact of the book?

I think they made the scene in the movie after the chess part look like Harry and Hermione have a chrush on each other. It was a horrible substitute :puke:

Right. The day brings a modicum of relief. Newsweek has published some authorized photos of the PoA cast, and Sirius looks MUCH better than he did in that other one, which was an informal shot he posed for to be nice I suppose. Still a little bit on the Tommy Chong side, but not nearly as bad as before.

Now Lupin isn't looking so hot, but he's way in the back and in the middle of making an unattractive face that really shouldn't have been memorialized in a still photo. David Thewlis is great though, I'm sure he's making a fabulous Lupin.

Other PoA stills for the curious: http://www.mugglenet.com/poa-newsweek.shtml

:-? Maybe I am totally confused, but I always imagined Lupin having short scraggly hair, not a perfectly round bowl of straight hairs. I'll go read the book again.

...not to mention that there are things in books that you can't make even halfway decent in a movie production. Like when the characters are thinking or the author is explaining things.
That may be the reason why I sometimes feel that there are great gaps in book-based movies I've seen (that's also why I tend to read the book before watching the movie...)

Funny - I know it's stupid, considering all the Hogwarts Animagi are the same age - but I always imagined Lupin as in his mid-fifties, with grey, wavy hair... I mean, each to their own, except when its bloody stupid, like mine :) .

James, Lupin, Black and Peter were classmates.
And I think McGonagall is older than all of them.

And those aren't the only animagi. Considering they're supposed to be rare and liscenced/monitored, there seem to be an overwhelming number of animagi - and unregistered animagi I might add - at Hogwarts. :p
