I've been wondering, is there any way to make a half-ogre gunslinger? Is it possible to modify either the race or the weapons in order to allow half-ogres to use pistols? I understand the reasoning behind the prohibition, but if my half-ogre makes his own guns, one would think he'd make them with larger handgrips and triggers and so forth, so that he could use them.

It would amuse me to have a reasonably intelligent half-ogre who shuns melee combat in favor of firearms. :)

Use rifles, there's just no art for a half-ogre using a pistol.

That would explain why I found nothing in the modding help files about setting which race can use an item. Thanks for explaining that. :)

What WOULD be cool would be if half-ogres could use rifles with only one hand and hold a shield in the other. Of course, that would probably be ridiculously overpowered, unless the shield incurred a hefty to-hit penalty or something.

Damn you for not releasing your 3d models, Troika! And also, for not existing. That is also bad. (R.I.P.)

Don't blame Troika. I'm sure Tim and Leon would be happy to release the original ArtMaker and some of the models to the community, but they don't have a right to do so. Sierra holds all rights to Arcanum, and they would sue the former Troika members if they try to release anything, as far as I can see.

Yes, I'm sure. If only this data could somehow end up on the internet somewhere, say on an anonymous file hosting server...

I'm sure that former Troika members also have more important things to do than monitor all of their former projects, for which they would not possibly be paid, and might perhaps be unaware of the continuing interest in communities such as this one.

Well, they're glad to help though.

Leon responded to my e-mail (about the sprite mirroring) in one day! He forwarded my question to Tim and I got my answer in less than 24 hours, how cool is that? And now it turns out that Leon is the lead world designer for Diablo 3, so you can imagine how busy he is, but he gave me a quick answer on a 7 years old game, nevertheless.

EDIT: That doesn't mean everybody should bother the former Troika members with something trivial.

That's pretty amazing! I'm surprised about the speed as much as the fact that you get a response. And as Leon is working on Diablo 3, I'd expect him to be especially busy.

I know that there have been some inquiries that would probably benefit from asking someone who worked on Arcanum, but the general rule is probably this: If you have a question, post about it. If you think it merits asking someone from Troika, post that you're thinking of asking so people can comment on that too, and maybe someone like Drog or DU can ask. Then, we can probably have more responses like the one Drog got.

Having said that, it would be nice to see someone from Troika in the forum sometime. I know Sharon Shellman was at the Arcanum Inn a few months ago, or something like that.
