Anyone has problem opening the cabinet/barrel inside this blacksmith's room in shrouded hills even after stealing his key?

Have even tried to picklock with 2 level of skill under apprentice (with Dex of 12) but to no avail...Is this a bug coz i saw in the walkthrough that you can actually get free stuff from him just like "Ristezze Imported Goods" (who gave the hint on the merchant of the ring)...?? :-(

The key isn't for his chest, it's for his bedroom. Two points in pick locks(apprenticed) with a dexterity of twelve is enough, you just have to work at it.

I suggest saving so you can reload if it becomes jammed.

No merchant in the game carries a key for his store inventory chest, only for his bedroom(if he has a key at all).

You can also skip pick locks early in the game and throw your focus into pick pocket, that way you can steal back every coin you spend and buy whatever you want that he sells instead of opening his chest to get it.

Then steal back the money when he sleeps, it's alot easier than using pick locks at that stage of the game. Before you use pick pocket though keep in mind anything other than leather gloves(light-fingered gauntlets and wearing no gloves at all) will reduce your pick pocket skill.

    ....

It depends on the shop keeper really. Though in alot of cases, especially within major cities ... yes, yes it will.

At the same time there are vendors who will attack you if you use lock picks on their store inventory chests. I have never figured out if that was a bug or intentional on a critical failure taking into account they are sleeping nearby(didn't really pay attention).
