I had a cat called Rakker. Alas, he died some years ago at the age of 16 years old from a sickness.

    How old was Portia?

Portia was nine when she first got sick but she made it to twelve before she was too sick to keep going. The vet reckons if we hadn't had her put down, she would have drowned within a week.

Yeah I understand the pain of a sick pet.

The mother of my Pup was hit by a car at a young age, and my mother nursed her back to health because she could not afford any treatment. As she was getting older she also started to go blind as well.

I think they put her to sleep, but I don't remember how old she was.

I had a hermit crab that died when me and my brother cleared out the upper floor with the fire we caused with our chemistry kit.

    It was a sad moment.

My cat Jill died of liver cancer.
She left this life in my arms.
Her brother Jack is still kicking at 12 years old. Actually he might be 13.
We've been here for almost 12 years and we got Jack and Jill 1 or 2 years before we moved.
Took a few years for me to get another cat.
Now I'm the human of RuneStone and she won't let me forget it.

DE: You set fire to your house with a chem. set!
    Dude!
That is so comic book hijinks.
I have to admit to being a bit envious.
Although, I am sorry about your crab.

I had about a dozen cats during the course of my childhood, most of whom became roadkill.

I had a cat that got hit by a car. She lived, albeit without a tail.

I was four years old (I think) back then, and my brother was nine. One would think that our parents should have displayed better judgmenet than that. Kids are not supposed to have flammable things as toys, especially when they come with lighters and shit.

My Optimus Prime survived the catastrophe though, having cleverly sneaked down to the ground floor.

Setting your house on fire when you're 4...damn...what else can one expect out of life after that? Did your parents happen to take you to the local fire department to teach you of the hazards of playing with fire? Mine did...forever will I have the image of a man crispied to the back of a molten desk chair...
If Optimus had been as manly as any of the other Transformers, he would have been made primarily out of metal...Transformers from the 80's provided both geometrical fun and a reasonable weapon when used in tandom with a sock.

I haven't felt the same about playing with fire since I spent a couple days in the intensive care ward at the Speicher combat support hospital in Iraq. There were a few burn victims in there that made me want to cry.

My school showed that one to me and my impressionable Grade 4 class... they never did it again, having a whole class full of kids who were either crying their eyes out or pitching fits made them go back to their old version of the fre safety class. (I was in the pitching fits group, even then crying wasn't something I did easily.)

I was given a machete when I was 5. I received a hunting knife and pellet gun at 6 so by the time I was 10 I owned at least 7 knives, a machete, an air rifle, and a police baton. But as an American I guess that's normal.

Making Japes cry is a big fucking deal. Remember kids, don't play with fire, or even Jungle Japes will break down.
