Yeah, you'll usually need to fiddle with the jumper settings (consult manual) to enable the higher FSB speeds...but most reasonably priced motherboards (which I'm assuming you bought) probably can't handle the speed Aries is suggesting. I know my Asus mobo probably couldn't do it.

Simplest way to clear the cmos, is remove the battery and let it stand over night, replace battery, reboot. I say overnight because, some boards, especalily ones with good power filtering can retain charge for quite awhile.

Some boards have a clear cmos jumper, check your manual.

Resetting a few times cures the no boot problem. The BIOS eventually gets the hint and restores. Checking the manual is essential, of course. Mine is a A7N8X Deluxe.

I've got one of those babies as well, and I seriously doubt it goes up to 233 or 266 mHz.

    Well

Ok, Jar. Here is an scanned pic of the specs of my mobo from the manual.

If you want the picture in any other way, I'll be glad to upload it to you. The 400 MHz FSB setting DOES require an update to the BIOS I think.

Canis didn't post her mobo model, either. I hope her PC is fine.

Oh, it's an EliteGroup N2U400-A. [Link.] It is *supposed* to be good for overclocking and such but the manual stinks and for the time I've stopped playing around with it. It works, and I'm satisfied.

I'm amazed and...kind of disgusted that this thread has managed to stay on topic up until now...

    FSB
    400/333/266/200 MHz

Now the shitty and tricky part is finding out what whats the BUS speed of the processor. THAT will help you calculate your speed. Overclocking is nice but I would personally prefer that the mobo would set a better default speed for Athlon XP processors. I heard P4 chips don't have that much hassle.

I've got a 2600 myself, bought it at the same time as the motherboard. A FSB of 400 would be insanely fast - I'm happy that I managed to reach 200, so I could push the RAM to it's fastest. At FSB of 400 it'd become one of the many new bottlenecks.

What a coincidence, Jar. So do I. But I put it on 233 MHz. So far, the only slowdown I experience is when I abuse my system by playing 28 players bot matches.
