Is There anyway, short of reloading, to get friends or at least neutral people to stop attacking? Example - opened barrel by near Capt. Teach's ship and ran away. Now he attack upon contact so I can't return to Isle of Despair. Help

Oops!!!! You shouldn't have let him see you do it. If you want to get away with it, you have to get him to look the other way first. I've never been able to pacify him after making Teach mad, so you probably will have to reload. Next time, be sure to save just before trying something risky like that. ;)

The book is a puzzle and you don't need it. Just skip it next time.

    Not exactly.

The half ogre guard in the black isle lets you in without a bloodbath, if you give him the book.

But it's only worth some xp, not some uber items, fate points or such, so I believe it can be skipped as toller said.

So There is no way to befriend people that one meets in the story - like shopkeepers - once you've angered them and they attack? I don't want to go back to old save games made weeks ago. Capt. Yeach was just one example.

Well a Smoking Jacket gives you like a +20 reaction

When I played a gambling master who gambled items of shopkeepers...I had to keep one in my inventory just in case a shopkeepers reaction became low enough to attack...so I'd just pop on my suit do my business, leave the store, walk away a bit and put on my armor.

I suppose Increasing you beauty by some way might also help...
