HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHA HAHA HA Ok, I'm done.
HA indeed. However, it's perfectly doable if you're running a small or even moderately sized forum and have the patience to bear their slow speeds and often annoying adverts. And getting your site deleted for no reason whatsoever. And having to perform the Labors of Hercules to get it all to work in the first place. But it can be done. Some potential hosts for your forum: www.tripod.co.uk 50mb, unlimited traffic, php/mysql support. I've been told that if you run phpBB the ad won't show up, but I haven't tried it myself. www.host.sk 50mb, unlimited bandwidth, php/mysql support. People say it's a pain to get an account there but I've had no trouble. It can be painfully slow, however. www.spaceports.com 10mb, 5gb bandwidth, php/mysql support. Forums ARE doable there, but just thinking about how to set it up gave me a nosebleed. Plus their adframe is something out of a nightmare. But hey, it works. Might just want to consider using a free board service like www.myikonboard.com . Free webhosts are notoriously flakey and can give you an aneurysm if you're uptight enough.
I noticed that after I registered. "Canis" simply refers to my love of widdow fwuffy puppies, and I assure you I had no intention of stepping on any toes here in the forum. Next time I'll just call myself "Widdow Fwuffy Puppy" and be done with it.
Thanks, but host.sk is all out of webspace, tripod.co.uk doesn't allow free hosting anymore, and phpBB doesn't work well on spaceports.com. I'll try the myikonboard.com thing...
and NBrosz gets DENIED. Try checking www.aimoo.com... they have free forums that you can really customize a lot. That would be a good route to go if you just wanted a forum.
No, I need some webspace to go with it. I also want a phpBB forum - not some dumb forum that you can pick a different name for every post!
You seem to want an awful lot for free Cough up some bucks and you can have everything your heart desires...
That's because this isn't anything big. It's just for a site for my bro... Maybe he will be happy to cough up the bucks...
$10 USD/year http://www.discount-hosting.com From their site: - Your domain name support - 50 Mb disk space - No additional setup fees - No unwanted banner or commercial - Unlimited FTP account - Unlimited e-mail alias forwarding - Catch-all alias - Full featured PHP4 with GD, XML, ftp and more - MySQL/PhpMyAdmin Monthly transfer is 5 gigs, more than enough for a personal site and message board. That's as close to free as you're going to get. They might not be the best host out there, but they're dirt cheap and a whole lot better than any free host offering similiar features. 10 dollars. That's less than 1 dollar per month.
How does this look for Vendigroth? I think I will go with the professional plus plan - 20Gb bandith, unlimited space, etc. and pay the lifetime lump sum. How does it sound?
I wouldn't do it, man. That's 350 fucking dollars. I'd feel a lot more comfortable paying for 6 months or a year at a time. That way when they finally go bust, you're not out all that much money. The fact that this host company is willing to charge a "lifetime" fee of $350 for a supposed 20gb monthly transfer allowance doesn't speak too highly of their business model. All I can say is read their Terms of Service very carefully. Search around on sites like webhostingtalk and others to see what kind of history this company has. I don't know, man. $350/life just sounds fishy to me. Like they're overselling like a motherfucker. I know I just recommended a different cheap host and < $1/month can also sound fishy, but I know that discount-hosting.com has been out for at least a few years. And at only $10 for a year of service with a 1 month free trial, your risk is minimal. I'd hate to see you get screwed out of $350.
Well, gee, thanks. Do you have a better suggestion of a cheap web host that offers more space and bandwidth that Vendigroth could possibly use, and has all that PHP, MySQL stuff, and works great with PhpBB?
