Perhaps not mentally. I try to work as much as I can, but with just a couple of days in a row, already I start contemplating suicide if it should continue.

Then you can not care about those, of course, I'm just saying there are people like that. Maybe they're more artistic and not fit for the usual kind of work.

Well, if you're an artist, and painting pictures, you are working in some way or another.

Eventually, maybe. But it might be a long time before you get anything done, or are able to sell anything.

Shouldn't be my problem, now should it?

I side with Xz. People get benefits for being lazy, which is an accurate reflection of the state of the world. I was unfit for benefits, unable to get work because of a lack of experience, and unable to gain experience through being given no work for lacking experience. A most irritating cycle.

Ultimately, I found work in Ireland but was soon fired for...well...knocking out a customer. Following that, I was treated for depression, and eventually restarted college. Even after I finish this, I'm clueless as to what additional prospects I'll have. On top of that, I can't get my antidepressants for want of money, while people who are on benefits get medication for free as well as money for nothing, and those who are actually doing something have to pay full-whack.

That's why I'm writing a novel. Pursuing alternative career options that require no prerequisite other than a way with words, willpower and a love for literature. Besides...the world is too unstable for me to accept a mundane life. I'd go the way of General Mandible's contemplations as well.

    [/textblock]

It's no one's problem but my own, as it would be anyone's who chose to do something other than a day job. I could find work and stick with it if I tried hard enough. I just don't want to devote myself to such a thing. Not unless other options are dry. Simple as that.

The US military model for taking care of it dependents is surprisingly well-done. A person signs a contract stipulating they will work for x years, in return for which they receive food, shelter, health care, and a living allowance. Should they acquire more dependents, i.e spouse and children, those are also provided for. If the individual is injured or otherwise incapacitated while working, all benefits are provided for the length of the individual's life. Alternate forms of work are found so the individual can remain useful. In fact, the only thing wrong with the whole system are the individuals.

Well according to Karl Marx (who the whole world seems to be idolizing) "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need." One of the most poisonous and evil statements ever.

I think most of your ideas of how society should be are quite harsh and would be hell to live in. That you should just work almost no matter what (exaggerating a bit here) would surely be hell for me. I mean, it's not like people who do work and want to be successful have all their money taken and the ones who don't work get the same. It's usually the bare minimum people who don't work are given and people who work can still become millionaires or billionaires. Besides, no matter how much to the right our government goes (more privatization, less handouts, etc.), the tax stays the same, so it's not like people here pay less.

Nah, some people are incapable of regular work for genuine reasons. Some people are simply idlers who do absolutely nothing with themselves beyond getting drunk or buying things outside of necessity.

It's just wrong where the money goes. I know people in college whose parents are well off, so they can't get the grant for weekly money (since it works off how much household income there is where you live), but the parents are tight bastards and give them little to nothing. Many students do extra subjects, meaning they don't have enough time for part-time work, meaning they earn nothing. You also have to get slips signed for every single lesson if you're allowed the grant, or you don't get anything, and are penalised if you're late at all.

For benefits, you turn up to an office building once a week and say you've been looking for work. More money for much less effort. It simply makes no sense. Most of them go out and spend their money on booze the day they receive it. Ah...priorities.

But unemployment is equally rigged. Fish put 5 years into the military, but now the Department of Economic Security is trying to deny his claim because he served in another state. Legally, he's entitled to a little over $6000 total while he looks for work, but it's like pulling teeth to actually get our hands on any of that money.

Eh, that's ridiculous. Seriously is. Everyone is trying to screw everyone else over for every damn penny possible. Practically everything is messed up these days. Locally, an Indian guy put a job ad in a paper, sating 'non-white only.' Caused some controversy. All he got was a slap on the wrist, so to speak. If a white guy did that...he'd be slammed so hard you'd swear you'd heard Shoryuken. And that's only legally, not going from potential personal attacks.

My point...all equality and decency is individual; case to case. And more to what you said, they seem to use cheap technicalities to get out of responsibilities, which at times is wrong on many levels. Who are they? Them.

They who let things get so bad that complaints have been made against people flying British flags.

    British people. In Britain.

Same in Sweden during conscription and when you study within the military.

Ouch. Same thing have happened in here, actually quite frequent.

I've heard stories about schools banning the national anthem and any display of the flag on the 6th of June while encouraging minorities to boast their culture in every way conceivable.

Yeah, that's exactly how you fight racism alright.

We sing the national anthem every night before going to bed. Oh, and we also thank the king for every meal. It's actually quite fun, even thought no pride is involved.

God damn it. Now I have to find something to replace that tune and keep it from ringing in my skull. This won't be easy.

Looks like something Wobbler would like to watch. I have to say that it failed it's purpose, since it didn't glue itself onto my brain cells.

Yeah, the tune isn't catchy enough to wipe the Go West tune out of my head, which for some reason is burned in there quite clearly today.

I blame DE for resurrecting the village people in my mind. Although, at times I can't tell if it's those sods or the Pet Shop Boys invading the blackened realm of my mind. Either way, there'll be fluffy animals and burly men in military uniforms or leather chaps and chains running amok in there soon enough.

    For shame.
