I'll be upgrading the forum this weekend. It shouldn't take long, but it'll mean the forums will be unavailable for a few hours during that time.

    Good luck on it, DU.

Are you going to try to upgrade it as-is, or will you start out with the raw 2.0.8 software, and then install the proper mods?

All the old threads and stuff will be left intact right?

Updating doesn't involve deleting anything so everything should stay intact... I hope so.

Hell yeah, a forum upgrade doesn't mean that you delete any threads. It just makes things more stable and adds some new features. Good stuff.

And improves security so that no one hacks it and writes that Sleek is gay or something. :p

Now that is something I'd like to see. No wait, it's happening already, damn... :p

We've decided to wait until 2.2 comes out with Unnamed. No real need to sweat it.

I'll probably shut down the main website/forums of the Chaos Inn soon so that I can work it all out without any worries about time.

As for the upgrades, yes, no threads will be lost. It upgrades the files; not the database. At least usually not.

I think it'll be a hell of a lot easier to upgrade than to take it all down, re-install it and then re-install all the mods and hope they work. If the upgrade does knock out any of the mods (the only mods being the Gallery and the spoiler tag) then I'll look for ways around them.

Also it's correct that the upgrade won't affect the posts in the database. It's a front-end thing so you'll lose nothing.

Welp, after backing up the database and then all the existing phpBB code (which includes the 80 mb of images in the gallery as well), I find out they lied to me. They said it'd take 15 minutes. Instead it took me almost 45 minutes. Although I did have to manually upgrade from 2.0.6 to 2.0.7 then from 2.0.7 to 2.0.8a...

We're upgraded. If you encounter any problems, let me know.

Quick reply still works, so I'm happy. Actually, truth to tell, I haven't noticed a single difference.

Good. That means it's working then. :)

From 2.0.6 to 2.0.8 are just security upgrades to stop evil Haxx0rs from doing nasty things to the forum.
