There was a case not so long ago where one actually killed an old lady when she went out to feed one a slice of bread or something.

Woah, that seems a bit...harsh, I mean, it's only an animal.

In the US, any animal that kills a human being is put down.

As stupid as it is, it's true.
Some ass-clown could be hiking in the Kodiak Islands and get mauled to death by a bear. The bear will be hunted and killed, if they find it.
I think it should only apply to domesticated animals, because the people who own the animals are responsible for the behaviour. If it's a wild animal in it's own friggin' habitat, it was the person's fault.

Aha, it is always killed? Even if the animal is under threat of extermination?

Unless killing that particular specimen would endanger the entire species, most likely. An animal which has killed a human is prone to do it again, and we can't have that can we?

When animals are endangered, we take a slightly less violent approach, but more often than not...we kill.

Not really, no. But I know that bears, once they've crossed the treshold that keeps them from venturing into villages and scavenging people's garbage, get increasingly bold. Although very few people are actually killed by bears, it doesn't seem too far-fetched that you could apply the same logic here.

Of course, the real problem is the ever-growing human population which dwindles the animals' natural habitats, which inevitably leads to situations like this.

Thats the same here in Australia with the crocodiles, once they get a taste of human or even dog flesh they have a tendency to end up in peoples backyards whom live close to a crocodile habitat. Hell people even find them in their swimming pools. But unless it is a brutal man eater, professionals are called in for relocation around Australia somewhere.

For the record, relocated crocs are usually sent to the outskirts of Alice Springs.

Hmmmmm you are how many kilometres away and you know more than most of us? And crocodile meat is actually delicious, especially put on a skewer and cooked on the barbie. Though I was a little disturbed the other night on David lettermans tonight show I think, where they were eating alligator. Instead of just having the meat they decided to have the whole alligator on a table, with its head in tact but just a skinned animal lying there.

Actually, I just googled a map on Australia and picked a place in the middle of the desert, in which "relocation" would be synonymous to "death" for most amphibian reptiles. :)

I thought it sounded wrong, but I did not know what the ramifications would be if I said anything.
