So... I'm at Level 32 or so, with Melee and Dodge maxed out, almost with Bow and Throw mastered, too. My only follower is Virgil (who I know leaves later on). I'm about to enter the Black Mountain Mines clan home (lots of exp from doing sidequests and all) ... My alignment is pretty high up into the "Good" rating, and I'm slightly towards Tech (I'm loaded down with Enchanted gear but also have Lockpicked maxed out) ... So, now, I've still got lots of Skill points but dunno how to spend them - magic? tech? ... but anyway!

I'm gonna need another follower or two for pack mules once Virgil leaves, so who's worth picking up?
Back to the no idea what to do with skill points, I could max out / master persuasion I guess to get anyone to join, if I'd need to for the best.

So anyway, who's good / worth getting / worth looking out for in the future?

First of all virgil only leaves for about 5 minutes! You leave tsen ang and go to caladon and get hime back.

As for followers, the point in the game where your at, you need expert persuasion, master is better for dialog options. Your gonna need 10-11 intelligence (for quest dialogs).

Pick up chukka when your done with mines. Get thorvald on isle of despair, needs persation! + hes a free follower, doesn't take up a slot.

If you haven't collected the taxes from blackroot you can get another free follower dante.

When you cross the mountain in qintarra you can get jormond whos free and after you find the elves home you can get raven in qintarra.

If you persuade Loghaire in the wheel clan to be king again, he'll join once you figure out the lost clan stuff.

Once your back from qintarra in tarant, you have a techie in sebastion and a mage called perriman smythe.

The trouble is that you have a whole lot left to do and all these followers are gonna be way below yours.

I like playing with 10 followers (+ 4 waiting ) and I get them all at the same level as I am. this way when I'm lvl 32 the rest of the party is the same.

But where your at lvl 32, most of us are around lvl 15-16 going to the mines. You'll have no troble with any of the monsters there and the rest of the game. Gonna be a cakewalk for you.

Sorry for the long post but you do have a lot left to do!

    Parmanian told you all that!

Most people when they start their first game, they never think persuation is needed. The more you play, the more you find out that it is really a needed skill. Probably why when you become an expert in it you get an extra follower.

Don't worry about carrying stuff. Just go to the warehouse in Tarant with a gnome standing outside. Accept his quest. Kill the rats. The warehouse is now yours.

Of course, the best would be Chukka because of his strenght. Dog in Ashbury is a must-have, free follower. But he doesn't carry items.

The followers you next encounter are Chukka, level 16? & a full blodded Ogre. Gets to ST 26. You need CH 12 to have Bates offer him. Thorvald, a Dwarf on the Isle of Despair. Level 22. You need persuasion 3 to get him, & don't be a Gnome. Jormund, a Dwarf mage in Qintarra, level 20. Solve a murder to get him. A side quest from Qintarra leads you to Waromon, a lizard archer, uh he is a lizard, he doesn't shoot them. Level somewhere in the 20s. Persuasion 3 & a long dialog maze. When you return to Tarant, there is Permian Smythe, a mage & healer, & Sebastian, the best tech fighter in the game. Both 20 something. Look for Dog in Ashburry on your next game.

well sebastian was LVL 30 and Perriman was 25 when I met them. But to get Perriman at the same level yah gotta get thorvald at 22 then do the wheel clan, stillwater and qintarra all in 3 levels, since perriman doesn't show up in tarant until after qintarra and the labor disputes in tarant.

Dang!!!!!!! I'm at level 48 and I have'nt even gone into the mines yet, I thought it appropriate to wander the map fighting monster's and upping my stats before going to the isle of despair.

Though (stupid me) I havent even touched persuasion yet.

Well of to train some more!!

I always do as much quests possible before going to the Black Mountain Clan. In my last game, I was over level 40 when I did it.

I don't mind my followers being lower level than me. They will still level after you reach 50 if you have the patch installed, so they will end up your level at some time.

Yeah I got the patch installed, but I'm gonna go back and do the Isle of despair again so I can get Thorvald to join me.

Well, you guys are going to be very bored with the game if you're level 30+ and only just going to the BMC mines - you've got a fucking long way to go still. The best thing to do regards NPC's is to pick them up when you're one level below theirs - that's the earliest you'll be able to get them. Yes, they will still level up when you hit level 50, but the gap from level 50 to 51 (and then being reset again) is a helluva lot bigger than the gaps between any other level.

Moral of the story - use the information on the site (i.e. the non-forum part) to find out the levels of each follower - and if you can't figure it out, how to get them - and try and plan accordingly for the party you desire.

Expert persuasion is all you really need, master is just excess (although it does let you abuse followers).

I spent most of my points maxxing out my Gunsmithy, smithy, electrics and mechanical, who needs followers (except for packhorses) when you've got 12 Auto-matons following you around :D :D :D

I get my fun out of doing every single sidequest at the start and then butchering my enemies in the main quest.

And just picking up the npcs according to your level is powergaming, and I don't powergame. I just pick them up when I'm in their area.

Theres really only one that is out of whack with the game storyline and thats Jormond (19), The rest are right around the level you should be when you meet them. I don't know about the power gaming aspect, it is put there by the programmers for you to figure out how to get them at their level.

just another way to play the game.
